Turn off networking in Disk director bootable media?
Hi friends,
I have been using acronis disk director for few days and its great, but i have come across a problem with the bootable media. Whenever Acronis boot media boots it takes an IP address of 172.16.255.254 which unfortunately is the IP address of one of our servers on the network. So when that happens all the services on the server seems to seize.
Is there anyway i could change the default IP or have acronis take the IP from a DHCP server or even turn off networking altogether? I tried passing various kernel parameters like ip=dhcp and so on because its linux based. But seems to have no effect. Please help.

Im using acronis disk director home from my laptop, and my laptop needs to be connected all the time. Unfortunately I dont get the option of configuring network on the Home edition!

That's unusual - I checked my boot CD for DD 11 Home carefully and don't see any evidence that it's using the network. If you remove "quiet" from the Linux startup (by pressing F11 before starting DD 11) you will end up at a command shell. On my copy I typed "ifconfig eth0" to verify that the wired ethernet adapter was not configured.
Are there any other Acronis programs on your boot CD? If so, you could try making another boot CD with only DD 11 to see it that fixes the networking.
However, even if networking is available, I don't see how you would be assigned an in-use IP address unless your network's DCHP server did that, so check that your DHCP server is configured properly.

I booted with usual "quiet" parameter and once acronis is up and running, there is an option to start the shell by clicking on Actions and then if you type ifconfig eth0, it says IP is 172.16.255.254. And the strange thing is it happens everywhere i connect, which means all machines takes no other IP but 172.16.255.254!
Ill post screenshots to help you understand.

Vishnu:
The Media Builder application in Disk Director 11 does not have any networking settings options since DD 11 Home does not use the network. But True Image Home 2011 does use networking. By any chance did you use the Media Builder application in True Image 2011 to create your boot CD containing both TI and DD? If you did, there is a dialog to allow setting networking parameters for the boot CD. Here is what I see when setting up a build for TI 2011 and DD 11:
By any chance could the network settings options have been accidentally configured for a fixed IP address of 172.16.255.254 when you build the boot CD?

You were right! The reason why i was always getting the same IP was because when i created the bootable media the IP of my machine was also 172.16.255.254 which was automatically taken by bootable media as its default IP address. I tried creating a different bootable media during which i changed my IP to 192.168.0.2 and the bootable media took that IP as its default. Now it makes sense!
But it would have been great had the bootable media taken IP from a DHCP server. I read about an advanced bootable media builder in one of the fourms which i think lets us to select between DHCP and a fixed IP address. Now is that free of charge or i need to pay for it? Please lemme know...

Vishnu:
I haven't read anything in this forum about an advanced Bootable Media Builder, although my guess would be that what you read was referring to the Bootable Media Builder that is included with Disk Director 11 Advanced Workstation. This version of Disk Director allows remote management of disks across a network.
The behavior of Disk Director Home that you describe doesn't seem right to me. I don't see why DD 11 Home would enable networking in the boot environment; it shouldn't be required. And if networking is enabled with the IP address of the machine that the boot CD was created on, then that could cause IP conflicts on a network like you've experienced.
I'll post a request in the Disk Director MVP forum for Acronis Support to take a look at this thread.

Hello Vishnu and Mark,
Thank you for your messages and thank you very much for your help Mark.
Vishnu, let me offer you additional help please.
Would you be kind enough to get back to me with additional information in order to understand this specific issue better.
We need to know how the bootable media was created, step-by-step description if you could, and we need additional reports please:
1. AcronisInfo report from the machine where you ran the media builder to created ADD11 Home bootable media.
2. Acronis Linux Report from ADD11 Home bootable media.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.
