Snap Deploy for Windows 7 vs WIM

Thread needs solution

Hello,

We currently have Snap Deploy 3.0 (3329) and have used it successfully for a while now, creating images of Windows XP machines. We have purchased 4 new laptops and I would like to create an image of Windows 7 on one of them and then push the image out.

My question is: I've been starting to read about new features of Windows 7 regarding imaging and how Microsoft has expanded greatly on creating and managing images. What are the benefits to using Snap Deploy and creating an image as opposed to trying out Microsoft's new imaging platform and tools (.wim files and such)

Thanks,

Phil Duncan

Hello, Phillip!
ASD 3 has user-initialized deployment, that allows end-user to select what image to deploy.
ASD has standalone image deployment and you can deploy your machines even if you network is down.
ASD doesn't need preconfiguration for deployment
If you have scheduled tasks, you can always see them from one window and see their status.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the reply. A couple more questions. I've read in a previous thread that Acronis didn't have a timeline as to when a new version of ASD would be created, but that was in March of 2010. Does Acronis have any new details into when a new version of ASD is going to be released? Do we even know if Acronis is working on a new version that will better support the new Windows versions (7, 2008, etc.)?

I'm wondering because from what I've read so far here in the forums it doesn't sound like Windows 7 is completely supported yet, and our tech support agreement is up for renewal soon.

Thanks again,

Phil Duncan

Hello, Phillip!
Thank you for interest to the Acronis Snap Deploy product. WIN7/W2K8 will be totally supported in the next version of ASD. At the moment ASD development team are working on that newer version and it will be released this year.
