Is there any way to assign a PC name to a MAC address?

Thread needs solution

Hopefully the subject will explain what I'm looking for. It's important that PC's in our suites are numbered/named in a certain order, so that if there has been any vandalism to a PC we can identify who was sitting at a particular machine. Thanks.

Hello Heath,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

Unfortunately you can’t perform this task using Acronis software.

I'm just wondering why is this still not possible?

{=MAC} would be such a usefull option for Computer Name in the deployment template.

And would guarantee a unique and logical computer name on the network.

The wild cards are very nice but if I deploy 25 machines today and then another 25 tomorrow I end up with doubled computer names on the network and no easy way of knowing which name went where.

Didn't Win2K RIS allow the computer name to be the NIC MAC address with a %MAC command 10 years ago??

Would it at least be possible for Snap Deploy to generate a 15 digit random number to all but guarantee a unique name?

Dear Jason!

Thank you for your comment and for suggestion.

I completely agree with you - this function would be more than useful. Unfortunately we still do not have it implemented, but I will definitely forward your comments to the Management and Development teams so that they could check whether it's possible to implement this feature in future releases.

Should you need anything else or have any further suggestions - please share them with us. We will be glad to address every question!

Thank you!

Hi,

I just wondered if this feature has been implemented yet, as I am currently testing Snap Deploy 3.

Thanks,

Kristian

I have checked our internal resources and at the moment we are still working to implement this feature.

Once we have any news regarding it, I will update this thread.
