User initiated deploy

Thread needs solution

Here, ASD is used in a testing environment. Machines are re-imaged frequently with many different images based on product being tested. Images are also created quite often based on new product roll-outs. When you create bootable media for use during User Initiated deployment that media only shows templates that were available when that ISO was created; newer templates are not displayed. To do so you have to create a new ISO and choose to incorporate those new templates. Having to create new bootable media every time a new master image is created (and added as a template) is cumbersome and wasteful, not to mention any CHANGES to the templates would require new bootable media. Is there an option during UI deploymnent to just display all templates?

Even better would be to capture an image to an ASD specified location, that new master image would be automatically incorporated into a template and included in the UI deployment. Any machines that boot after that would have the new master image automatically displayed, along with all other templates, for deployment. Slick!

I motion the above inferred enhancements be rolled into version... now? Please? :-)

Your software is working for me and I thank you for that. Tweaks for the above mentioned test environment would be GREAT!

TIA,

Tim

Hello, mctimoth.
Nice to see you among our customers!
Your concern make sense and I agree that it would be good enough to update list of available templates from deploy server, when media is loaded. I'll create a chang request on it and we'll take it into scope discussion while working on a new ASD version.

Thanks for the consideration.

There is still a question unanswered: Is there currently any way to list all available templates when imaging a machine? Specifically using the UI scenario but I'll take whatever I can get.

Thanks,
Tim

I think the answer to my question is as follows:

Currently my best option is to PXE boot to re-image machines. If/When there are new/changed templates I need to remember to re-deploy User-Initiated Deployment and include the new/changed templates. This will update the template list. Zero media required.

To save images I will have to boot to the ASD boot disc and save images.

So I would like to update my request for the UI scenario: Along with automatically updating the templates when they are new/changed I would request that there were also an option on the PXE boot list to capture an image. The boot list should offer both options to capture and image and to deploy any template without having to change the UI deployment or Turn off/on UI Deployment.

Thanks,
Tim
