100% disk utilisation after partition update MBR to GPT followed by universal restore Windows 10

Hi,

I have restored to a new machine running Windows 10 the details are below - the problem I have is that the hard disk is always running at 100% utilisation after the restore - how can I fix this? The bios has been fully updated and I have got the latest drivers from Dell and did not have this on my original machine. I have left the machine on for a couple of days and have rebooted a couple of times. Would appreciate any help on how to resolve or if there is a known issue as I am taking far too long trying to resolve this?

Steps tried to remedy
I have tried turning off in services Windows Search, Superfetch with no difference. 
Looking at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3083595 this does not seem to apply as the controller is using iaStorA.sys so no MCI issue?

 

Restoration Process

I was able to take a backup of my Dell XPS 15 machine hard disk and apply the C drive partition to a new machine XPS 15 9550 (This is a newer version with different hardware). Both machines had Windows 10 installed and I finally got it to work by just updating the C drive partition on its own - I believe my original PC was using MBR and the new had a GPT structure. Immediately after using True Image 2016 to update the partition I rebooted into USB Universal Restore where I had already added the drivers for the new XPS 15 9550, this then did its thing and I was able to boot successfully to my new machine with my old data - finally a success and was able to reboot a few times and it still works! (Spent two of my weekends trying to get the correct combination - the reboots were always the issue with it then coming up with boot inaccessible - full disk image would work I could turn on the new machine login but when I restarted it would then fail to re boot back to Windows)...

Russel, welcome to these user forums.

I have no idea of why you are seeing 100% disk utilisation after your migration of your Windows 10 backup to a new system and use of Universal Restore.  I would suggest running an in-place upgrade of Windows 10 on the new XPS 15 9550 system to see if this will resolve the issue.

Russell. I experienced a similar problem on my Desktop that was upgraded from Windows 7. I was able to track down the offending programs by using Task Manager and Resource Monitor.

Open Task Manager and click the Performance tab. Click on the Disk that is being utilised 100%. Then click on Open Resource Monitor at the botom of the Performance Tab. With Resource Monitor open click on the disk tab to get a list of the programs and processes using your disk.

I found Malwarebytes and another program causing 100% disk usage. I uninstalled Malwarebytes with its cleanup tool and reinstalled. I can't remember the other program at the moment but I was able to reduce the disk usage to a more normal level.
