Acronis 2016 won't boot from rescue disc
I'm using Acronis True Image 2016 on my Windows 10 Home system.
As a test I tried to boot from the Acronis 2016 Rescue Disc, but that doesn't work! Whatever I try, my system just keeps on booting from the system disc and won't boot from the Acronis disc.
I checked my BIOS settings and that is 1. USB, 2. DVD Drive and 3. Windows 10 System disc. So it checks the disc drive first before booting from the system drive.
Does anybody has a clue and solution?

From what I figured out the problem has to do with the so called 'Unified Extensible Firmware Interface' (UEFI) standard firmware interface in Windows 8 and 10. This prevents Windows booting from another OS. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/what-uefi
I don't know enough of this to dare experiment with its settings, so I also do hope Acronis will come up with a solution to this.

When you want to boot from a different device under Windows 10 (and 8.1 previously) there are a couple of options depending on the hardware you are using, one is to invoke the boot options provided by the hardware device, i.e. for Lenovo laptops it is a pin-hole on the side of the laptop that you push a paper-clip into when the laptop is powered off.
The second and much easier method is to open the Windows 10 settings panel - shown simply as Settings, then click on Update & Security, then click on Recovery where you will now see an option for Advanced Startup in the right-side panel - there is only one option shown here which is 'Restart now'.
When you click on 'Restart now' the system will shutdown and you will see additional boot choices when it starts up again, including booting from recognised USB, CD or DVD devices.

Hello Steve,
I really appreciate your help and screenshots, but unfortunately my Windows 10 looks slightly different.Your screenshots 202514, 2020604 and 202632 are the same as I have, but I don't see the option as in your 202722 screenshot. So I can follow the steps until the boot choices.
This is how it is on my PC:
When I go to Recovery and do Restart Now, I get three different options:
Continue, Troubleshoot and Turn Off your PC
When I choose Troubleshoot, I'll get the options Reset this PC and Advanced Options. From Advanced Options I can choose System Restore (=from Restore Points), System Image Recovery (=only Windows Backups), Startup Repair, Command Prompt, Startup Settings and Go Back to the previous build. The Startup settings offer 10 options, but no boot up from USB or DVD.
I'm using the latest Windows 10 Home build, maybe that is different from your Windows 10?
Any other ideas?

Hi A.P. Kamphuis
what system do you have? Is it a 64 bit or a 32 bit.
It may also be that you have to use a WinPE boot medium as not all computer accept third party UEFI signatur (thats what they have to accept if you use Standard Acronis recovery env).

Hi S22,
I'm using a 64 bit system.
WinPE boot medium? Does that work the same as the regular Acronis rescue dvd? Where can I find that?

Hello, your system should be similar to the one I have been using today and have got this working fine.
My system is also Windows 10 Home 64-bit with both UEFI and Secure Boot enabled.
I have created a document (attached to this post) describing the steps needed to create the WinPE Rescue Media which is needed when working with UEFI systems, this includes screen shots captured during the process of doing this.
Note: The document was created when using Acronis True Image 2015 but I have done the same with 2016 on a different system - the only key difference is that 2016 uses the Windows 10 ADK for the WinPE process whereas 2015 uses the Windows 8.1 ADK.
One word of warning - do not bother to Activate the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager as this uses a Linux recovery environment which won't work with UEFI. On my system it almost gave me a heart attack when it got stuck at boot displaying a message saying 'Acronis loader for UEFI loading....' and then never did anything more! I had to go into the BIOS options and boot directly from the Windows Boot Loader to start Windows 10 again and Deactivate the ASRM!
Bottom line is that I have options where I can boot the Acronis True Image 2015 or 2016 WinPE Rescue Media from either a WIM (Windows Image File) or from a CD of the same, and have full access to all my internal drive partitions.

And your windows/computer speziialy your uefi bios. is it 32 bit or 64 bit....sorry if i missed this information before..... Problem is that a 64 bit UEFI will not work on a 32 bit UEFI solution...

Hello,
As I understand you have UEFI 64 bits and the issue is that you can't boot from bootable media.
First of all I advise you to disable secured boot. Then enable Legacy boot and then try to boot the machine using the Bootable Media.
You can also test all USB ports.
If the issue persist I recommend you to use WinPe based media. You will find the procedure of creating here http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2016/index.html#3…. The tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIBJNni6fic.
Again, for anyone experiencing this problem, I recommend contacting our support to get this resolved.
