Acronis TI 2016 will not open an older file
Will acronis open a backup .tib file from Acronis 2010 or 2013? I have a backup from January 2010 that I need to review and when I open it with Acronis 2016 it fails. I also have other backups from 2013 that I need to review. Can Acronis 2016 open these? If not, how do I open them? Create a VM and install the old version of Acronis?
Here is the error message...
Failed to add the backup to the backup list. the backup may be locked or corrupted. Also, make sure the folder contains the last volume of the backup and does not contain a renamed copy of the same backup.

Please see KB 1689: Backup archive compatibility across different product versions which gives the official Acronis position about backwards compatibility.
This shows the following for your ATI 2016:
Acronis True Image 2016, Acronis True Image Cloud (Release 2016) on Windows |
backups of Windows computers created with: |
My understanding of the above is that this is as far as Acronis has tested, so it is not an absolute statement of what could potentially work or not!
The safest method of checking your very old 2010 backup image file would be to boot from the Rescue Media for that version - if you don't still have this, then sign in to your Acronis account on the main acronis.com website and download the .ISO file for the media and burn this to CD.
It is possible that the original archive has gone bad - how is it stored? If this is on CD or DVD media, these can go bad over time, and if on a HDD drive it is possible for the same - you should attempt to run a Validation of the .TIB file to see if this will succeed or not?
