Acronis True Image 2016 rescue media boots to a black screen

I thought I'd share my recent (and many past) experiences with Acronis True Image Rescue Media booting to a black screen, after selecting Acronis True Image from the initial menu. It appears to have frozen, but actually it hasn't. You're just not seeing the picture.

I have found that if your motherboard has an on-board video capability, and you have a dedicated video card as well, this problem can occur. What I do is I remove the dedicated video card and then plug the monitor into the on-board video output temporarily. Then I try booting from the rescue media again and it usually works.

I think the problem relates to True Images inability to choose to correct output display adapter, when there are two.

Actually the issue is that the Linux based environment used to run the TI app in the Recovery Media lacks driver support for some add on video cards in which case the display goes black. This can also be true if an unsupported display resolution is used even using the onboard video device.

The cards I have trouble with are always super common things like Asus Geforce GTX550, etc. If the Linux based environment True Image uses to boot lacks support for graphics adapters like this then they have big problem.

I believe it is more to do with screen resolution than driver support but both do exist. It has been reported here several times that those running new 4K displays experience the black screen, display adapter driver or unsupported resolution? Take your pick. Bottom line is some experimentation is necessary when this condition presents itself. Thanks for posting.

Every time it has happened to me it's been with common video adapters plugged in to standard LCD's with 1920x1080 max res' or lower

Short of my advice, to pull the card out, what experimentation are you referring to?

It should be possible to select the onboard video controller from within the machine bios. That should eliminate the need to remove an add on card.

Another avenue and one that should be done first is to attempt adjustment of screen resolution to a compatible level. See the attached link.
