After the backup completes, I get an error message, will not read the backu

Thread needs solution

Here is the log:

17    True Image    12/21/2015 8:55:09 AM    The following backups have been successfully created: "E:\True Image\Entire PC (YOGAPC)_full_b1_s1_v1.tib"

18    True Image    12/21/2015 8:55:09 AM    Failed to open data stream. Try to remove the backup from the list, add it again by clicking 'Browse for backup' and recreate the backup settings.

I cannot get any access to this backup, it will not add back as the suggestion.  It is happening on 2/3 computers.   I have uninstalled re-installed.  It is very repeatable.

Are you doing anything with Windows folder permissions?  Read/Write, Not Shared...

The permissions show Admin full control and users are read and execute.

I changed the permissions for the folder but failed on the .tib files

I re-ran teh backup after I changed permissions and it worked normally!   Thanks for the tip.  I even tried a restore and it found the data!

Awesome!

Well done!

Here's why I suspected that folder permissions might be involved...

Personally, I run ATI from a separate user account.  That account is the only acccount on my computer with Admin privileges.  The folder that I use for the backup files is not shared with any other accounts.  ATI performs the backups with no problems.  However, if I try any other operation, such as restore, or validate, ATI generates error messages similar to the ones you were getting.  However, when I boot with rescue media, ATI has absolutely no problems.

I do this to protect the backup data files from malware attacks.  Since the account I use for surfing and e-mails only has standard user priveleges, any processes spawned by that account would only have standard user priveleges. I believe that any attempt to access the folder by malware process would generate an error message or request for administrator password.

I also monitor the log file on a daily basis for any error messages.

To date, I have had no problems.  I have done numerous restores to a spare SDD that I keep as a ready backup if my system disk crashes.

FtrPilot,

A very interesting preceding post. Thank you for sharing. That might also explain some of the error message of "backups not found".

You're welcome...I believe blogs like this are invaluable and are meant for sharing.

I hope that Acronis investigates this.  It is very strange that a software program can create a data file and then with a click of another menu item, fail to access that same file.  But that is exactly what is happening.

My personal preference is to keep the database folders protected.
