backing up to network

Thread needs solution

I have 2 Win 10 computers. Recently I had to do a clean install of win 10 on one of them. Up until then I have been backing up from one computer to another without a problem. Now Acronis is asking that I provide my computer credentials to back up to it. I assume that would be my computer name and password. The problem is I don't use passwords to login to either of my computers. It worked fine before. Why is it asking me now?

Even with a blank password and same username, the accounts are different on each system.  You would need to connect using \\computername\username

If password is blank, that should still work.

Windows 10 homegroups may be the other problem.  Often times, Windows shares in homegrouop need to be re ACL'd... meaning, all systems should leave the homegroup. Turn off all systems.  Turn on the main system and create a new homegroup and share out the folders and make sure permissions are correctr on the share.  Then turn on the next pc and join the new homegroup and try connecting to the shares and if prompted use the \\computername\username of the system where the share is being hosted from.

This is not unique to Acronis, but Windows file sharing in Windows and more-so in Windows 10 than previous versions.  Until the local files shares and persmissions are working smoothly from within Windows, Acronis will not be able to access them either.  After that, then try creating a new backup in Acronis and enter the credentials as well and hopefully all will go well.

I left both homegroups, rebooted and restablished them. I made sure all my folders and drives were shared. I can access all folders on either computer from the other one. I still get the Account and password required in Acronis. What account and what password? Is the account my computer name? Is the password my homegroup password? If it is it doesn't work. I tried Computer name and leaving the password blank but that doesn't work either. On my other compyter it says Authentication settings and says Path and my other computer. Again I have no idea what it wants me to put in to username and password.

particularly the section "Where Acronis True Image 2016 stores credentials for accessing NAS/network shares"

You may need to clear the saved credentials in the registry to get it to prompt for them again.  Once prompted, you enter the credentials as:

\\computername\username  where the computer name is that of the system hosting the share.  If you're using Windows 10 and a Windows Live account for login, the username should be your email account.
