Backup not starting

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'm having an issue with TI 2016 (latest build as of today)

After I configure the backup for the first time and start the backup there is a message at the top of the window "Retrieving information". The backup does not start and there is no CPU or disk activity.

Clicking "Back up now" does nothing after I restart True Image.

I set up a new differential folder backup for my C:\Users\ directory to external HDDs

I configure the settings I normally use:

Weekly Backup

Custom Scheme: Differential (full version after 3 diff. versions)

Excluded System and Temp Files

Reserve copy to second HDD

Normal Priority, Max Compression, AES 256 Encryption

Hello!

I also am having the same problem!! The back-up worked one time and then presented the same problem
as KermikElite. I am using Windows 10 Pro

In addition, since installing version 2016, my USB flash drives take over 15 minutes to give me directory list. It is like Acronis is continuing to try to back-up my computer to my flash drive, even after I have terminated Acronis and rebooted several times!

I have found a temporary work around for the USB problem:
Go to "My Computer" / "This PC" , right click and select Manage.
Select Services and stop all the services starting with "Acronis" - fortunately they are at the top.

This is only temporary as the services are re-started next restart.

I hope Acronis can figure out a fix for this so stopping their services is not needed!

I'm also using Windows 10 Pro and my system is having issues accessing any type of removable storage while True Image is installed.

Opening the file explorer when connecting my external hard drives causes the window to become unresponsive. Explorer.exe will then crash closing all of my windows, the taskbar, and desktop icons to disappear. Windows returns to normal after I disconnect the hard drive.

This also results in Windows error messages indicating that "The USB device has malfunctioned" and the disk should be checked for errors even though no errors are found.

I noticed that after leaving True Image open for a few minutes it loads some of my old backup files from the hard drive into my backup list. I think this might be related to the issue, making the system unstable while it is searching for backups.

I have a very similar issue. I've created configured a (folder) backup a few weeks ago. Two backups have been made successfully since. One complete and one incremental. Today, when I click backup now the green arrow between the backup source and target will become a gray arrow but that's about it. Nothing else happens. There's no progress bar and no significant cpu or disk activity.

The same thing happens when I try to manually start a disk backup which I configured separately.

Between setting up the backup and now I installed two updates of ATI 2016. I cannot tell if this is related.

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. ATI 2016 is at build 5634.

I've been using different versions of ATI for years. I've run into some bugs and strange behaviour in the past and somehow have gotten used to it. However, this is as bad as it get's. Only weeks after upgrading to ATI 2016 it basically stopped working.

Does the problem subsist when you you don't have a reserve copy. Keep in mind that reserve copies are always full backups. It generally makes more sense to have a second backup task instead of a reserve copy.

What is the backup destination of the main backup? Acronis cloud?

Let Acronis finish it search and index your existing TIB files, this might take a long while. Then, you can still remove the unwanted entries from the UI.

I would uninstall, reboot, reinstall and start new backup task pointing at tempty directories

Hello Pat L and thank-you for you response!

My very first full back-up with my External USB 3.0 Western Digital Hard Drive worked after 4 failed tries. I thought I had the program working correctly. When I tried to do another full back-up a few days later the problems began again. I left the program running for 4 hours and it never moved - 0 completed. I completely cleared the back-up (through Acronis) and even created a new back-up destination folder - to no avail. Also, Acronis kept scheduling back-ups even though I excluded that option. This is also when I started having the problems with other flash drives not working correctly, as others have also reported.

This all started after my Acronis True Image 15 would not work (same symptoms as above) when I upgraded my laptop to Window 10.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Well, I'd thought about this even before posting here. I went ahead, removed True Image, installed the latest build (using the web installer that automatically downloads the latest build) and it did work. I waited a couple of days to see if it'd still work. So far, everything's been fine.

I wish I hadn't had to do all this. After all, I'm using True Image 2016 to help me save time with the backup routine. That's been disappointing.

I have Acronis 2016 Cloud.  I try to backup to a USB drive and the backup appears to run and a check mark is displayed indicating that it is finished but it is not working. I can see in the task manager the USB drive is never being accessed and the new file is not created on the USB drive after it indicates it is complete.

This software does not work!

Tim, please start a new post of your own rather than just adding to the end of an old forum thread.

I would recommend downloading a copy of the Log File Viewer app from the forum and using this to look at the Service log for your backup to the USB drive and see what messages are being posted for this.

I can assure you that this software does work as the majority of users will also testify to.  We will try to help you prove this for yourself.
