Backup screen stuck on "Entire PC"
I was trying to delete a couple of old backups and in trying to do so I have managed to get stuck on the backup screen with "Entire PC" selected. Not sure how I managed this. I cannot get out of this backup screen even if I shut down the computer. I do not want to backup the entire PC as I do not believe I have enough space. I can go to Dashboard, Tools, Help etc. but if I go to Backup it is always this screen that I see.
down.
My daily differentials are no longer being backed up and I have no idea what to do. Please can someone help me.
Thanks, Curlietop

Thanks Ian. I can see that what you say works and that I can change the backup source, but I would rather just come out of doing a backup and delete the files I need to delete. Do I have to finish this process first and say backup just one file to get rid of it?
Thanks, Curlietop

Not 100% certain what you are trying to do.
From ATI you can either delete a backup task OR the backup task and the associated backup files. You can also set up a backup so that it deletes old backup chains. You can manually delete individual backup files (however if you use incremental backups if you delete say the second incremental backup, the subsequent incremental backups in the chain will not work; only those from the next full backup will work. If you manually delete backup files (*.tib) you will need to validate the backup (either in Windows Explorer select the last files in the backup, right click, select True Image, then select Validate; or do so from within ATI). ATI Validate will flag errors, click on ignore, until the process is complete. Run validate again to confirm that the backup is OK. This process rebuilds the data for the backup task.
Hope this helps

The scheme is set to backup daily differentials and full on the 7th day and auto delete every 14 days but it has old two full backups that have no associated differentials & which were not complete backups (they failed). They are taking up space and I would like to delete them. I can't do this because I cannot get rid of this Entire PC backup screen - I can't get at the delete files area. If I right click on the "Entire PC" in the left hand part of the screen all I'm offered is Rename. Also the backup scheme I use is not working because this Entire PC screen is blocking it. No differentials for 4 days now...
Do you have any other ideas please?

You cannot do this from within ATI. You will have to use Windows Explorer or your preferred file manager to delete "two full backups that have no associated differentials & which were not complete backups (they failed)." Once you have done so, you will need to validate the backup.
What I do not understand is how having the create new backup task open would prevent a scheduled backup from running. To me it suggests that there is an incomplete backup task, but I would not expect it to be there after the PC is shut down. Have you tried cancelling the creation of the backup that seems to want to be created. Can you still see the backup task listed in the left hand side of the ATI screen?

Thank you Ian, I have now deleted the two full backups through Explorer. But I can't validate the backup, because I can't cancel the creation of the backup that seems to want to be created, I cannot see any option anywhere for this. The only thing I can do is Rename using the left hand side of the ATI screen. Or else on the right hand side change the Source from entire PC to files etc.No other changes are open to me. I obviously have a big problem. The differential was working fine until I started to try and delete those two backups through ATI.
Thanks

Curlietop, if your screen image is correct and the only task shown in the main ATI 2016 GUI is the new one being created, then validation is mute as it only applies to active tasks which are shown in the GUI and have created existing backup image .tib files.
Validation is only needed in such cases because Acronis records information about the backup task activity and history in an internal database, so when you delete .tib files for that task using Explorer validation is needed to reconcile the database information with the new status of backup files.
If you want to bring back your existing backup files into the GUI, then you need to use the hidden second option at the bottom of the main GUI panel (to the right of the + Add backup option - click on (V) to see the option to Add existing ...).
After adding back your existing backup files - Note: you only need to select the latest .tib file if all your files have the same name stem. You then need to reconfigure the backup by reselecting the Source data and confirming the Destination location, plus set the options for Scheduling, Backup Scheme, Notifications, Exclusions and any Advanced settings for the task, plus you can rename the task name (to remove any extra _full_bx_sx_vx characters from the added file).
