BackUp under Bitlocker

Thread needs solution

I've got a blue screen in Win 10. My disk is under Bitlocker. by trying to use Acronis Boot Media - I got error. I found here some information: https://kb.acronis.com/content/56619

You can restore disks encrypted by BitLocker only using Acronis bootable media. You need to reactivate encryption after recovery.

You cannot back up encrypted disks in Acronis bootable media, please install the product on your computer.

What does it mean? I need format my disk, install Win 10 againe anf just after that - start Boot Media?

Thank you for your post and the link to the KB document for your question.

What the KB document means is as follows:

ATIH 2016 is capable of making full backup images of Bitlocker encrypted drives when these are created from within Windows 10 and the drive contents 'appear' to be unencrypted to the Acronis application.

Essentially this means that the backup image data is not encrypted by Bitlocker in the .TIB file.

To restore your backup image, you will need to boot from the Acronis Rescue boot media but once that restore / recovery is complete, your drive will no longer be encrypted by Bitlocker and you will need to reactivate encryption if you still want to have this level of protection in place.

There should be no need for you to format your drive and install Windows 10 in order to recover your system.

I would recommend downloading a copy of the latest ATIH 2016 build 6559 bootable rescue media (ISO file) from your Acronis Account, burn this to a DVD and then retry booting from the rescue media on your system again.

Please note that if your system normally booted in UEFI / GPT mode then you need to boot the Acronis Media in the same method.  See the YouTube video on this subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8Ml1IbVp-8
