Can't restore "C:\Users\MyUserID\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache"
Seems like I had a problem with some caches? The ATI2016 seemed to be corrupted in that I couldn't open up with Explorer the backups without having to specify them again? Saw the fix here and that did work.
However something happened to my INetCache too. I deleted a specific file in it trying to correct a script error and the folder now is all wrong and messed up. It looks completely different from my Wife's PC. No folders in it. If I use the CMD prompt it is different from what Explorer shows and my Explorer Replacement. However in Internet Options looking the the files with that it appears OK? IE folder doesn't show in CMD Prompt, Explorer, or Explorer++ (Replacement I use). However my ATI back-up looks correct.
Before I fixed the ATI cache problem I tried restoring INETCACHE. It litterally took a few seconds and then I rebooted, no change? I booted the recovery CD, same thing? INETCACHE was NOT restored.
OK, just tried after the ATI Cache fix. Looked better, took about 5 minutes to restore the folder, however it wasn't?
Confused?
2 Attachments are what I see in the Backup and what is on the C: drive AFTER the backup???
I'm assuming some sort of permissions issue or ATI failure?

The reason is ONE program is getting the Script errors. It is really not 'needed' it seems but it started a few weeks ago. It is only happening on MY PC, not my wifes. Gamehouse (http://www.gamehouse.com/) has a 'pre-loader' that opens when executing a game. The use part of IE it seems. The error looks the same for any game. an error in GA.JS within the INETCACHE\IE folder. See the attached screen shot.
I did find the file and deleted it. Didn't FIX the problem, but after that the INETCACHE folder looks messed up compared to my wife's PC (yes, that is different in terms of contents, but it shouldn't be in structure). I also looked at an ATI backup and that has the correct structure.
So that is when I tried restoring INETCACHE from within ATI. First the RESTORE to original location wasn't available. I had to define it using the where to restore it to which seemed odd. Took literally seconds to do that. OK, maybe something had it locked, I'll use the bootable ATI recovery disk. Good, 5 minutes... however in BOTH cases it did NOT restore.
Today I booted to the Hidden Administrator, figure I could delete INETCACHE using it. To my surprise looking at my USERID's INETCACHE it looked EXACTLY as I thought it should?
Suspicion is there are some PERMISSIONS messed up or blocking it. One would think the bootable ATI Recovery disk would not have a problem but it appears it did?
I'm on Windows 10, so the link might be completely correct (but I suspect it is)? I was thinking of creating a new folder for INETCACHE to be, then use it, then see if I could empty or delete the old one, and then direct it back there. One of the other things I should try probably?
Gamehouse suggested I delete IE 11 from Win10 and then re-install it as that should recreate the folder correctly. It didn't... and between the delete and install I did check and the folder was gone.
Something IS hosed.. but it might not be a big deal as only this one thing seems to be having a problem and it has no real detrimental efffect on the game once started.
Just surprise ATI can't restore the folder?
Oh, I did test emptying it using drive properties and that seems to work?
Not sure what is going on?

Irv, thanks for the further information and the screen shot.
I tend to read that type of script error message literally, i.e. that the error is on the web page URL rather than on my own computer.
I also tend to keep away from Internet Explorer and didn't like Microsoft Edge on Windows 10, so my main browser is Google Chrome. I keep my browser cache cleaned regularly plus also set a limit of only 50MB normally for storage of cache data. I use either CCleaner or another utility called DiskMax for cleaning purposes and have not had any issues in doing so. You can also use the Windows Disk Cleanup tool that you get to by right-clicking on the Disk Drive letter in Windows Explorer and looking at Properties.

Steve, yes, that is what I thought too, it was a script on the web, but it isn't. Otherwise my wife's PC (and another PC) that I tested on would have the same problem. Matter of fact, then I opened GA.JS it opened up in IE with that same URL.
CCleaner I avoid, as I do any Registry Cleaner. The Disk properties does and adequate job clearing that particular cache, and with Internet Options on the Control Panel you can also manage the size too. Also you can set it to empty in IE when you exit. I too never use IE or Edge, but I do use Firefox.
The problem is that the INETCACHE seems to be corrupted, at least to my USERID? The Hidden Administrator sees the folder like it should be (same as on my wife's PC). Also Explorer DID NOT open up the ATI backups? It did at one time and I was able to restore individual files using that before? One of the reasons I came into this forum and saw I was not alone. Used the suggestion of deleting files in the folder for ATI and that fixed it. I tried a restore of the INETCACHE folder again but it still doesn't?

Steve, 'something' fixed it for me?
What I did was RUN Advanced Uninstaller Pro and used its Windows Temporary Files under Registry and File Tool that removes 'garbage' and Temp files. Then I tried the game and no more error? Tried it a few times, no more error? Tried a few different ones, error is gone? Tested Explorer with ATI's backups, works fine?
One thing I did discover, well, 2 things.
The last ATI backup that was done AFTER this problem appeared INETCACHE was NOT backed up? Was in ALL previous backups?
Last one is that both Explorer++ and Windows Explorer show the format (files and folders) of what I expect and I can also navigate them. However a CMD prompt, both normal and run as Administrator do NOT see/show everything? For instance the IE sub-folder only appears in Explorer++ and Windows Explorer, but NOT in a CMD prompt???

Yet a CD IE works? But I can only see the CONTAINER.DAT using ATTRIB *.* and not the various sub-folders in it?
Don't know why AII couldn't restore the folder, nor why when it was messed up ATI couldn't back it up?
Well I just looked at the LOG using the tool....

I backup once a week and the 1/14, 21, 28, and 2/4 backups ALL have this error. Suspect it IS related? It was the 1/14 I was trying to recover INETCACHE from??? Hmmm....

Irv, in your second, successful log file, you had the following exclusion set:
Exclude: Files matching mask Match criterion:
hiberfil.sys
pagefile.sys
$Recycle.Bin
swapfile.sys
System Volume Information
*.tib
*.tib.metadata
*.~
*.tmp
C:\Users\ispal_000\AppData\Local\Temp
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp
C:\Users\ispal_000\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache
It seems from your earlier log that there was some form of permissions corruption for the INetCache folder or contents and this rendered the files inaccessible, so cleaning them out has resolved that issue.
- Accedi per poter commentare

Probably, it was around then that it started. I really suspect an MS Update or a possible install or uninstall of a program.
Next test will be if it will survive a REBOOT.
Hmm, I get sent e-mail on the backup status/completion. The e-mail didn't show the error???

Irv, just for clarity here, some of the very long error codes that you see in the full log file content are leftovers from the Acronis Developers and intended for their use only, not an indication of a failure that would stop the backup / restore action from being successful.
The email notifications simplify the log contents and only show the relevant entries, not the whole content.

OK, good to know.
Well, the Gamehouse problem is back this morning on booting... but using Explorer the INETCACHE folder looks normal.
I give up here on this. Like I said, not a problem elsewhere it seems?
- Accedi per poter commentare

I didn't follow the full thread. Is the thought that Acronis is somehow preventing gamehouse from working? I don't see that being the case...
Does the current backup still have the INetCache exclusions in place? Again, don't see how having them or not would make a difference for the usability of gamehouse, but if those files were preventing Acronis from backing up... is Acronis locking up still, or is it just an issue with gamehouse throwing an inet error?
C:\Users\ispal_000\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache
I don't know anything about gamehouse, but there are references online about how hard it is to remove - perhaps it's corrupt and needs a clean install on that machine... Worth a shot and here are some instructions from the web.
http://www.advanceduninstaller.com/Hidden-Object-Crosswords-e03efb39d28…
It also seems like many of the .exe's from gamehouse get flagged as malware. I'm not saying they are, but if they are unsiged, they may be getting flagged as PUP items - what AV do you have installed - is it the same on both systems (to include the specific version). Have you tried whitelisting it completely in your AV?
The other possibility is a corrupted user profile. I've seen disk with bad/dirty sectors that relate to OS related features (IE is actually one of the more common ones). We'd try everything, but because those files were corrupted, no amount of repair actually worked. What would work though, was if we just created a new user profile in Windows and migrate their main data over and use the new profile. Perhaps not elloquent, but beats having to rebuild in some cases just to fix one unfixable error that is wasting time trying to hunt down.

No, that is not the problem. I did have INETCACHE in a backup according to Explorer, after I fixed it, it, Explorer couldn't open the backups. So I tried just restoring that folder and all sub-folders. Did not work? I then booted the ATI recovery disk and used that. Still didn't work. That is when this thread started.
Bobbo_3C0X1 wrote:Does the current backup still have the INetCache exclusions in place? Again, don't see how having them or not would make a difference for the usability of gamehouse, but if those files were preventing Acronis from backing up... is Acronis locking up still, or is it just an issue with gamehouse throwing an inet error?
One does still, but it really isn't of much value alone. I was hoping IF this was a PERMISSIONS problem ATI would reset it on restore of the folder.
Bobbo_3C0X1 wrote:I don't know anything about gamehouse, but there are references online about how hard it is to remove - perhaps it's corrupt and needs a clean install on that machine... Worth a shot and here are some instructions from the web.

I use Advanced Unistaller all the time, it had no problems deleting games, but I do know some registry enties are left on removal. No problem though.
Bobbo_3C0X1 wrote:It also seems like many of the .exe's from gamehouse get flagged as malware. I'm not saying they are, but if they are unsiged, they may be getting flagged as PUP items - what AV do you have installed - is it the same on both systems (to include the specific version). Have you tried whitelisting it completely in your AV?
I've got McAfee Live Safe and it rarely reports them as malware, I don't think it ever had. Wife has Norton ISS and it reports them almost all the time, but the report is few users vs. malware. To be expected for a new game.
Oddly enough, just yesterday McAfee's Browser Protection reported the site and Unsafe???
Bobbo_3C0X1 wrote:The other possibility is a corrupted user profile.
I was thinking that as well. Gamehouse suggested I uninstall IE 11 and re-install it. That 'supposedly' will re-write the INETCACHE. When I uninstalled it the INETCACHE was gone. However re-installing didn't fix it.
As I mentioned before I couldn't open a Backup in Windows Explorer and discovered in another thread here the ATI cache corruption was at fault. Delete the files and it got rebuilt and it worked fine.
So far, these are the ONLY 2 problems I can find. Everything else works fine. Even the Gamehouse games. It is just its front-end that checks the license (if using FunPass) that presents the script error. I can dismiss it with either yes or no and from then on every thing works fine. Doesn't happen on my wife's machine. We're both on W10, but I have Home and she has Pro. Maybe there is a setting I can't reach with Home as it doesn't have Group Policy? Don't know. But I also see the message that 'some settings are set by ?????', forgot the actual message and it appears on some settings? Not sure where though.

Maybe your're onto something there. Perhaps it is flagging it as unsafe and forcing you to manually accept to move past it. You do have different AV than the other computer so it's a possiblity. Tough to know for sure, but if it's only this behavior and all else seems to be OK, maybe that's good enough now. Good luck if you do keep pursuing it though.

That 'report' for Gamehouse and Bigfish sites is gone today. They were contacted (McAfee) and fixed it. On further review of the offending sites messages it showed it was due to an OUTLOOK mail sending problem.... further down under details.
That was reported my McAfee 'web safe', not the full McAfee Live Safe or the Norton ISS.
I've had, off and on, that message on some settings indicating they were controlled by your Organization (who ever that might be?). Like I said, can't find it now showing anywhere. Suspect that had something to do with it.
I may just start checking the permissions on my PC and my wife's and compare them, but since I'm not really having any problems I'm not driven to do that.

Hey, if it's working, it's working.
Just FYI, all of us with MVP badges are users too. We just help out a lot in the forums because we're geeks, like to help, or are gluttens for punishment, so it's not our organization. You can always contact Acronis technical support to work directly with Acronis, instead of the users in the forum.

After literally playing with this for weeks, I might have solved it. Again, this is NOT happening on my wife's PC but she's running W10 Pro and I'm on W10 home.
The real hint was it 'cleared' itself once I emptied the IE cache. That was located under the INETCACHE under 'userid'. It just would not hold after reboot.
Started looking closer at this... and searching the web was really useless. Clearing the cache actually emptied the IE folder in INETCACHE... then when I ran the program it worked fine, until I rebooted. Discovered IE folder was populated on reboot! So today I decided to bring up IE and RESET it to default. That also made the Gamehouse program work. Rebooted, it still did.
Conclusion, my IE (which I hardly EVER use) was corrupted in its profile and that might have been the root of the problem.
I hope it doesn't come back... Just posted here to close this off, AND thank you all for your suggestions and help.

Irv, thanks for the update on this problem. You will certainly not be the first user to experience problems caused by a damaged or corrupted browser profile. I have had to reset various browsers back to their 'factory' default settings to clear some strange problems in the past, especially after encountering any browser hijack attempts.
