Correct use of ATIH 2016 Rescue Disc

Thread needs solution

I have upgraded to ATIH 2016 from ATIH 2012. YAY! Finally!  At the moment, I have but one question and it concerns the menul list in Acronis when I boot from my Rescue DVD.  I see two items that I have a question about, now.  Which of these should I use:

Acronis True Image

Acronis True Image (64-bit)

My OS is Windows 7 x64.  Does that mean when I boot from the Recue Disc that I should select the second menu item above or does it even matter?

Thank you,

Tim

Can you post a picture of that screen? It is surprising that you have 2 versions of Acronis showing up. Are you sure it is not the system report? Maybe the upgrade left some older executable... Would be surprising.

At any rate, use the 64 bit version.

I would not know how to take a screen shot of that window since I am no longer within the Windows environment.

Thanks,

Tim

Can you take a photo of the screen and post it?

Tim,

Take the picture with your cell phone.  I would recommend resizing around 1000x800 before posting.  Some of the cell phone pictures are pretty large.

To Enchantech and FTRPilot:

You guys are great and also funny.  With my cell phone I can order pizzas, period.  ;-)  But, I have a friend who lives across the street.  Tomorrow is Memorial Day and we are getting together so I will ask her if she could come over and take a picture of it with her iPhone.  Or, maybe I will just handcopy the screen for you, or both.

I think the anomaly may be due to the fact that ATIH 2016 may be both 32-bit and 64-bit.

Thanks for your replies,

Tim

Here are the 7 items in my Rescue Disc reboot screen.  I will still ask my friend to take a photo of the screen, tomorrow.

Acronis Universal Restore (32-bit)

Acronis Universal Restore (64-bit with UEFI support)

Acronis True Image

Acronis System Report

Acronis True Image (64-bit)

Acronis System Report (64-bit)

Start Windows

That's it.  I couldn't draw the icons in front of the two first items.  ;-)

Thanks again,

Hi Tim,

What you write will be enough.  You have used the Media Builder tool to create boot media that contains Universal Restore, which does come in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions, and Acronis True Image, Acronis True Image 64 bit which is what you would use to recover a backup image file.  You can also use True Image to create backup images from there.  The 64 bit version is what you would run if your machine boots from UEFI with Secure Boot enabled.  The other option is for systems that are booted from Legacy bios only or emulated.

I would think the 64 bit version is what you would want but again it depends on how your machine boots.

You might discover if your machine is booting using UEFI by right click on the Windows start button, select Run and type MSinfo32.exe, select Ok.  In the resulting window look for an entry that says Boot Mode and you should have your answer.

Choose the 32-bit option; it runs fine on 64-bit systems.

In fact, I've never had luck with the 64-bit option so far, as it does not run properly or detect drives, but the 32-bit runs fine.

I'll attach an image of the screen. The CD was burnt from a pre-built ISO off the Acronis website.

I did a search of MSINFO and could not find anything about Boot Mode or UEFI.

I also included a pic of my boot screen. I didn't know how to resize the jpg.

Thank you,

Is this better?

Hi Tim,

Have another look at MSinfo32, look for BIOS Mode, it shold be about 1/3 of the way done in the list.  Screen Pics are fime but not needed as explained above.

I don't know where else to post this.

Problem:

System 1: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
Problems: 1) Will only start in safe mode 2) Cannot load Acronis onto it 3) Do not have backup or system image created by Acronis. Cannot run sysprep. I have tried the delwpa.bat "trick" with no success.

System 2: Windows 7 home premium with Acronis TI2016 installed.
Problem: Cannot move the hard drive from system 1 over and have it load.  I have tried to recover with Acronis System Restore but the installation of Windows AKI is not obvious to me. The xcopy or ecopy of the ISO did not work.

Are there step by step solutions? Where can I find them?

Thank you very much. This is beyond frustrating.

I did another search and found nothing about BIOS Mode. I did see the BIOS version (1003) and SIMBIOS version (2.6). I looked on the System Summary page. And I searched for BIOS Mode from that same page. I haven't found anythig about BIOS Mode.

Thanks,

Tim,  If you're not seeing an install mode, I suspect you have a legacy install, but to confirm, let's try something else.  Take a look at:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/29504-bios-mode-see-if-windows-boo…

There are a few different ways to check your OS install type.  Hopefully one will help you solidfy your install type.  After that, then we can help you determine the best way to boot your offline bootable recovery media.

In your post above you are bootign it in legacy mode.  Assuming that matches your OS install type, you want to take a full disk backup using either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Acronis True Image - it really doesn't matter which.  I usually use 32-bit because it seems to have better compatibility with laptop touchscreens.
