Freezes While Cloning

Thread needs solution

I have been using Acronis TI for years and have not had any problems cloning UNTIL NOW.

I was cloning from my Win 10 C: WDC 1 TB HD drive to a WDC 1 TB internal HD that I installed in a SATA to USB enclosure. Some time during the clone (@ Copying Partition 4) it freezes. The cursor does not respond to the mouse, the (destination) drive light is solid (was blinking before the freeze), and the Caps Lock on my HP Envy LT is blinking continously. I had to power down manually and power up again.

When I looked at the drive (via disk management) there had been some changes to the partitions, but it did not match the source drive.

I later tried cloning to a WD My Passport 1 TB drive (in the manufactuers sealed enclosure) and things went fine.

I again tried cloning to my enclosed internal drive and gout the same result, i.e. freeze.

Anyone with the same issue, causes, fixes?

Thanks.

The first possibility is that there is a problem with one of the disk drives - as a first step I would suggest running chkdsk.

I suggest using the parameters /f and /r so the command would be chkdsk /r /f

Disk cloning can be problematic, particularly if you are cloning the disk drive on which the operating system is located.

One possibility is to create a backup of the disk and then recover to the new HDD. If you can create the backup (and it does not revert to sector-by-sector) then there is no problem with the source HDD.
