How to "reattach" a backup version chain

Thread needs solution

Hello! I had to reinstall ATI and recreate my backup task. Now I have a perfectly good version chain that I need to "reattach" to the new backup task. Does anyone know how to do that? Right now my version chain is pretty much orphaned since the new backup task does not know about it. Doing an ATI validation on one of the backup files (invoked from windows explorer) seemed promising but surprisingly it created a new backup task which has no "options" button so I can't modify it, and furthermore the task seems to be associated with the single file and not the whole chain. Does anyone know how to "reattach" my good backup chain to the newly created backup task? Thanks!

Steve, it sounds as if you are almost there with your actions so far.

By validating one of the files in your backup version chain, you have in effect 'added an existing backup' to your list of Acronis tasks in the ATIH 2016 GUI, so the next action you need to take is to Reconfigure that backup, which should be shown as an option at the bottom (instead of Backup now IIRC).

See the ATIH 2016 User Guide: Backup operations menu where it shows the Reconfigure option as given in the drop-down menu accessed via the (V) icon next to the task name.

The backup operations menu can contain the following items:

  • Rename (not available for online backups) - allows you to set a new name for a backup in the list. The backup files will not be renamed.
  • Reconfigure (for backups manually added to the backup list) - allows configuring the settings of a backup created by a previous Acronis True Image version. This item may also appear for backups created on another computer and added to the backup list without importing their settings.

Without backup settings, you cannot refresh the backup by clicking Back up now. Also, you cannot edit and clone the backup settings.

  • Reconfigure (for online backups) - allows you to bind a selected online backup to the current computer. To do this, click this item and reconfigure settings of the backup. Note that only one online backup can be active on one computer.
  • Validate - starts backup validation.
