how to recover into partition

I have a 500 GB internal hard drive running Win 7 in a 300 GB partition - drive C: & I have a blank unused 200 GB partition - drive D:
I have an external hard drive with a recent image of XP from another compuer that I wish to install in the blank 200 GB partition.
My computer recognizes both drives. I can not find any way to recover this image to the partition. Please help.

I am running Acronis 2016 on a Windows 8.1 machine. Every once in a while when I shut down, the computer hangs up. I get an error message that says Acronis 2016 is busy , and will finish in about 2 minutes. Well, after 60 minutes the message was still on the computer, and I manually shut the computer down. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong, and how to solve the problem? Thank you, Mark
