Logon required backing up to network share

Thread needs solution

Running Acronis True Image 2016 update 2. I have two Windows 10 laptops. They are both members of a homegroup. One laptop has a large 2nd disk, and a folder of that disk has been shared. Attempting to backup from the other laptop to the network share causes a logon prompt. Yet from file explorer we can access that share WITHOUT requesting logon. I have no clue what username/password to use for Acronis, especially considering file explorer accesses the shared folder without one.

The username/password you need to supply is the Homegroup username/password.  Once you have entered that correctly the first time the app will remember it and it will not be required again.

Thank you for your reply.

I know I was given the homegroup password when I created it, and used it when the 2nd laptop joined it.

But I don't have a clue what the "homegroup username" is.  There was no mention of a username when creating or joining the homegroup.

In the Windows 10 Search box type HomeGroup.  Select/click the HomeGroup entry at the top of the search window, click View or Print HomeGroup password.  Your HomeGroup password will be revealed.

When asked for this information in the application enter the password only and chooe Test Connection.  You should get Connected verification if not then add Homegroup as the Username.

Thank you! Will give it a try soon and let you know.
