Macbook Air - Windows ONLY (no Mac OS, Bootcamp) - ATI 2016 USB Rescue Media says "Trial Version"

Thread needs solution

Yes, you read correctly:

I have a 2017 Macbook Air (love the hardware) but have installed Windows 10 ONLY (love the OS) with all the latest Apple Drivers. Works perfectly.

The Windows installation was done via EFI since the Macbook Air has no old-school BIOS.

I want to use my licensed True Image 2016 on this machine. On other PCs I have always used the ATI Rescue Media ONLY as it suits my needs perfectly - periodic full backups or full restores of the Windows system partition. All user data sits on a separate D: partition.

I downloaded the latest ATI 2016 Rescue Media ISO (Build 6595) from my Acronis account, and created a UEFI Boot USB with YUMI Multiboot - the UEFI Beta version http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/

I can boot from the USB I created, and run ATI - but when I want to commit the task (Backup partition in my case) - I get the error message "This is a trial version of True Image".

The entire drive (SSD) is NTFS. It seems it should all work, but ATI is apparently looking for my license, which it cannot find.

Question: How and where can I add my ATI license information to the Rescue Media Boot USB? Or is it another issue?

I would be overjoyed by a solution to this tricky - admittedly unorthodox - but perhaps simple problem.

Many thanks for any pointers out there.

Jason, welcome to these User Forums.

The simplest method of resolving any issues of licensing is to install the ATI Windows application, ensure that this is activated then use the Acronis Rescue Media Builder tool to create the USB rescue media stick directly without needing to use YUMI or any other third-party ISO to USB tools.

The ISO file from your Acronis account download page should be the full, licensed version but I have a vague memory of some issues with the ISO file giving 'Trial' status some years back, so if you want to pursue this, you would need to open a dialogue with Acronis.  I would suggest starting with a private message to Ekaterina (the forum moderator) with details of your Acronis account (if any different to used here) and your serial number for ATI 2016.  Ekaterina should be able to verify the ISO held in your account or give you a download link as appropriate.

Note: All the Acronis Rescue Media versions are capable of booting in both Legacy and UEFI modes.

Hello Jason,

I've seen such issue reported by another user, the resolution was to write a bootable media from Acronis True Image directly to the target drive, not as an .ISO file. This way it was correctly licensed.

Checked the .iso files available at https://account.acronis.com/#/products - should be full licensed versions, so I assume the issue only occurs when an .ISO file is used with YUMI.
