Migrating from one Lenovo X1 Carbon to another - both running 8.1 and identical machines

Thread needs solution

Lenovo replaced my X1 carbon and I need to get all from old one to new one. But when I connect the two with a Male to Male USB cable TrueImage 16 will not recognize the new machine as a drive.
Am I oversimplifying this. I was lead to believe this was the way to get all from the old machine to the new without having to reinstall everything. Thanks.

How are you trying to do this, from within Windows or booting from the Recovery media?

I also assume you are trying to clone the old drive to the new.

Are you actually connecting two laptops or just the drive from the original laptop?

With a Lenovo you might need to perform a 'reverse' clone, which is where you install the old drive into the new laptop, boot from the recovery boot the laptop and then clone to the external new drive. Once done, replace the drives.

Is the new laptop an X1 as well?

You might need to disable Secure Boot.

If you have a spare hard drive the better way to go is to make an image of your old drive and then restore the image to the new drive.

It is not advisable to do this from within Windows, unless there is a problem with the recovery media not being able to see your hard drives.
