Network location drive on synology NAS not recognized

Thread needs solution

I just installed Acronis 2016 with the latest update. Tried creating a complete PC backup. The interface does nto recognize a network drive.

1. The network location shows up in Windows Explorer under "Network".

2. It can be accessed using \\diskstation\homes... from the Explorer address bar

3. I also created a mapped drive Y:"\\diskstation\homes\backup\"

4. Credentials for accessing the synology-diskstation are also stored in Windows Credntials Manager.

I tried several times.

1. At least once, Acronis 'saw' the drive and asked for credentials. Test connection was successful.  Even after that, nothing changes in the interface. "OK" button remains greyed out.

2. typing the full address "\\diskstation\homes\backup\my_pc_backup_folder" in "Backup to:"  field does nothing at all.

Acronis provides no feedback as to where the process stalled, or what I could do differently.  Nothing is hapening at all!

smacronis,

There is a reg key that can be removed to force Acronis to ask you for the credentials again.  Hopefully that will get it to prompt again, test and then try starting the backp again.  Here is the Knowledge Base article...

These credentials do not get automatically updated if there is a change on the Windows side (new homegroup, different share permissions, change of IP, difference in share name, etc).  Not sure if anyting similar may have happened in your case though.

We have been requesting a more usefult way of being able to re-enter these credentials as well (in the GUI) and do hope to see something in a later release not too far down the road.  Please submit similar feedback to Acronis through the app or your online account too.  The more they hear about it, the more likely we are to see the changes implemented (and more quickly too).

smacronis,

I have a Synology NAS and have experienced the same problems you are having.  The link the Bobbo provided gives a detailed explanation...here's some additional hints:

The easiest way is to use regedit...The password and user name that ATI uses are located in the registry at the following location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Acronis\Connections\smb\YourNASNAME

You can do a "Find" on "YourNASNAME" and regedit will take you to the registry location.

You should exit ATI before running regedit, then navigate to the location and delete the password and username.  Deleting the username and password will not impact other ATI tasks, as the username and password for the other tasks are stored in another file (script).

Reboot your computer, then call up ATI.  Build a new task for the backup, and when you select the source, ATI should ask for credentials.

Personally, after I build a new task, I call up regedit and delete the username & password.
