New Version Query

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I really want to purchase True Image 2016, but it's been out for a while now and I don't want to buy it if in a few months a 2017 version is released.

Can anyone tell me when a new version will be out and is there a period of time that there will be a free upgrade from 2016 for those who have just bought it?

Thanks.

Mike.

Michael, see https://kb.acronis.com/content/35000 which suggests that there may be a 30 day that would qualify you to a free upgrade if a new version if released after you had purchased the prior version.

The difficult part here is in knowing when a new version is going to be released, i.e. when ATIH 2017 is coming out to know if you qualify when buying ATIH 2016.  A little like playing the lottery methinks!

Thanks for the update Steve. I'll probably wait a while. It's annoying there's only a 30 day window after purchase.

Mike.

If you opt for the annual cloud subscription you are entitled to all major releases for 12 months so it can actually save money if you get a deal for the cloud license.  It can basically pay for itself if you get an upgrade to 2 versions, plus you currently get unlimited cloud storage space if you want/need it (although it can be slow to upload and recover - but it is nice for offsite disaster recovery none-the-less).  Just a thought, but by no means necessary if not insterested. Also, if it makes $ sense this time to get the cloud subscription, you do not have to renew and whatever major version you have at the end of the 12 months is still fully functional (minus the cloud features) and still gives you access to any version updates that come out for that specific release.

My understanding is that the version you have at the end of the subscription enters a recovery only mode until the subscription is renewed.

After your Acronis True Image Cloud subscription expires, all product functionality will be blocked until further subscription renewal, however, the backed up data is still accessible:

  • For 5 days after subscription expires you can continue making backups to cloud storage.
  • During 30 days after subscription expires you can restore data from Cloud Storage. Thirty days after subscription expiration the data in cloud storage is destroyed.
  • Local backups remain available for restore.

Acronis typically releases a new product every year between the end of July and the first of September.

I disagree about the product going into recovery mode when the subscription to Cloud expires.

Yes, all the Cloud data will be deleted after the 30 day period following expiry, but the product just reverts to the standard ATIH 2016 application without Cloud.  This was my experience when I used the Cloud 30 day trial period when I first upgraded and then decided not to take the annual subscription.  I still had the full capabilities of ATIH 2016 but without Cloud or Sync.

Steve, actually Acronis True Image Cloud is a subscription product. After the subscription is expired, a user will be able to recover local backups and cloud backups (until those are deleted). However, subscription included full year of support and free upgrades to all major versions (minor updates with bug fixes are available for free, major updates with new features require a purchase).

I would recommend to purchase Acronis True Image Cloud subscription - and get all of the upgrades for free during the subscription period.

We are working on providing a subscription for the product without Cloud, so you could also get free upgrades and full year of support, but that option is not available now.

Also, we always provide a special upgrade price for all of the existing customers for the new version.

Gaidar, thank you for clarifying this, I understand that Acronis True Image Cloud is a subscription product however the OP was asking about Acronis True Image 2016 with no mention of Cloud until Bobbo's reply.

I personally will not buy a product that will not allow me to continue using it to make local backups after the subscription period ends - my reply was based on my experience in using ATIH 2016 which I only use for local backups after my 30 day trial subscription to Cloud expired.  If Acronis True Image will be going to a subscription only model then I will be another lost customer of this product despite having used it since version 9.

I do hope that Acronis leaves the different options available to ensure that most users have the option to pick what works best for them as well.  I would also hate to purchase a product that ceased to completely work after the subscription ended if there was only a subscription model available.
