Proper way to relocate image files?

Thread needs solution

I've been using ati for some time now backing up 3 computers on a synology nas.  I now want to start backing up to a wd nas.  I realize that acronis has special database info on which backups are available, where, etc, so, it's not advisable to simply drag and drop the images to a new directory/drive/etc.

So, what is the approved method of moving all of my backup files/images from one nas to another and maintain the acronis databases?

Any constructive comments are appreciated.

This is something I wish to know as well. Previous versions (certainly TI2014) had an XML file located at,

C:\Users\All users\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database\

which could be edited/deleted/have the contents deleted and which would then allow Acronis to start with 'clean' slate.

Does TI2016 have a similar file located anywhere (its not under the above filepath) that could be user edited. When you restore a backup, the restored database will be out of sync with the backups anyway and so this facility is vital.

This is a hugely important question.

I did finally find the "move" option.  It's located after selecting the down arrow next to the list of backup tasks.  I'm busy moving files now, but, appears it will take a few days at the pace it's going.  Did see Grover's comments that you should really create a new task instead of moving the existing task.  I believe he's using atih 2014, so, don't know if his comments apply to atih 2016.

Thanks.

I'm still finding my way around this, but it is starting to make a bit more sense although I have several unanswered questions on its operation, which will be for new threads of course. I have just deliberately made some backups including incrementals and successfully (as far as I can tell) restored them.

I did encounter the 'ghost folder' problem (that being able to edit the internal database would solve) although this time I was able to delete via Windows explorer and it has now disappeared from Acronis and (up to now) not been recreated.

Mooly,

If you restore a backup, yes,the backups and tasks are out of sync.  You would be best to start new tasks after the restore.

Regarding your path question. This Database folder can be renamed and it will create a new folder.

C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database.\

There is nothing in 2015-2016 version which can be edited to get the database back in synce.

Toejam,

YOu found the move option which many of us don't like because the currect location must be in place and working before you can move it to another locations.  Some prior versions move option did not have that requirement.

If the location of the tib backiup files are accessible, they can be restored via the TI Recovery CD so where they are is not important as long as the path is accessible.

yes, I prefer to start all  new tasks as it is usually the simpliest and most consistent correction and avoids trying to fix something that cannot be fixed.

Grover: thank you for chiming in.  I started the move operation to the wd ex2 nas, but, something barfed on the connection and the task got re-routed to the new location without all the old files.  So, I decided to just drag and drop them onto the nas and hope for the best.  I guess my main concern is that this may mess up some atih database of which backups are available and which aren't.  I did go ahead and setup a new task to the new nas, and deleted the old task ( but, not the files).  We'll see how things look tomorrow morning after the first task runs tonight.

I will start another thread re drive space readings between what the wd my cloud ex2 nas says and what acronis says, stay tuned.

You might alsol try a manual validation of the files which were moved via any method.

YOu an right click the newest file in the chain and choose the True Image/Validate from the right click menu.

Thanks for the tip, would be good to make sure the files I dragged across are still valid.

GroverH - I don't think that it's true that the metadata can't be changed.  Earlier versions used an xml file, which was relatively easy to edit with XML Notepad or similar, once one understood the basic structure.  It looks like they've switched to a SQLite database - this can be edited with the SQLite browser - http://sqlitebrowser.org/.  I've only just switched to 2016 because of W10 and haven't got my head around how the database is structured, but there are still 'slice' entries just as there was in xml file.  I guess that I'll have to delve into this more when something goes wrong...

Frustrated,

You may be right. i am not a programmer and not familiar with SQLite so go to it.

Let us know your results.
