Re-launching backups after reinstalling ATI2016

Thread needs solution

Due to problems with the "Sync" part of ATI2016 I have found it necessary to uninstall and reinstall ATI2016 on my PC (Windows 10) machine several times.  While this has enabled me to correct the problem with synchronising files with my other PCs and the Cloud, it seems to mean I have to re-create all my previously defined backups which is quite frustrating.

After the reinstall, all my previous backups do appear on the "backup" page of the application but the only options are to recover the files or "reconfigure" the backup.  When I choose reconfigure I then have to painstakingly re-select all the files and folders (or in some cases disks/partitions), re-select my preferences on when and how often the backup jobs run, etc.  With 6 or more different backups (some to local drives, some to Cloud) this can take me a pretty long time.

Can anyone advise me whether what I am doing is the only way to manage the problem?  I have had ATIH software for many years and my recollection was that previous versions could re-create the backups when the backup record file was found on the PC.

Hello Jeremy, unfortunately that is the way the product works when you do a reinstall, especially if you either run the Acronis Cleanup Tool, or run an uninstaller program that will remove all Acronis related files and folders.

If you have a backup image of your system from before the reinstall that includes the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder, you could try restoring the contents of that folder as the scripts hold all the configuration information for your backup tasks.  I would recommend backing up the current Scripts folder first 'just in case'!

You will still lose the history information for your backup tasks / images as this is held in the Database folder on the same path, but if you were having problems previously, I wouldn't recommend restoring that folder in case you reintroduce any issues that are associated with information stored in the database.

When you do a reinstall, ATIH 2016 & earlier versions, search for backup image files and automatically add these to your list of backup tasks, but if you look at the task names, you will see that these are just the image file names and you would then need to reconfigure the individual tasks to reset the desired schedule, backup scheme, notifications etc

Jeremy, as mentioned in my reply to your post at https://forum.acronis.com/forum/116262#comment-348546, the issue could be workarounded by deleting default "Sync" job, that is created automatically by the progam, and replacing it with your own sync tasks, those that you have created. So, re-installation is not the only way to address this issue.
