Recovering individual files

Thread needs solution

I'm having trouble recovering files from a Folder backup (as opposed to a Disk Image). I've tried following the Help file, please see my comments below:

To recover files and folders:

  1. Start Acronis True Image.
  2. On the sidebar, click Backup.
  3. From the backup list, select the backup which contains the files or folders that you want to recover.
  4. On the right panel, click Recover files.

The Recover link only shows for a Disk backup, not for a Folder backup.

To recover files and folders directly from Windows Explorer:

  1. Double-click the corresponding .tib file, and then browse to the file or folder that you want to recover.
  2. Copy the file or folder to a hard disk.

If I double-click on the .tib file, it brings up True Image, not Windows Explorer.

If I right-click and select Open With ... Windows Explorer, nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong please?  The backups are not encrypted.

RG99, welcome to these user forums.

What build version of ATIH 2016 are you running?  Look on the Account page in the GUI (icon looks like a head & shoulders icon).  You should be using build 6571 or 6581 (latest).

Acronis issued a patch for the ATIH 2016 TibMounter function that you can also try.  See https://forum.acronis.com/forum/116874?page=1#comment-374611 where you will find a link to download the patch.

I am using the latest build 6581.

I ran the patch you linked to, and it appeared to complete correctly. But it has not solved the problem, everything is the same as before.

If I try to mount a folder backup, I get the message "Specified archive cannot be mounted since it contains no partitions"

I'm using Windows 10 pro 64bit

The next step here would be to try a Repair install by downloading the full build 6581 installer from your Acronis account and running this as administrator over the top of your current installation to allow any problems in the current application to be resolved.

If that doesn't solve the issue, then a clean install will be needed.

To do a clean install, remove the current version using the control panel, programs & features, then download the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature), run this as administrator to remove all traces of Acronis software (True Image and Disk Director will be removed), then restart the computer before reinstalling the latest build installer again.

A clean install will remove all your backup tasks and task history, so this will need to be recreated - you can also add your existing backups and reconfigure the settings for these.

Thanks for the advice Steve. I'll try that and report back.

Well, I did a clean install, and Acronis now allows ne to recover files from a folder backup. That's a relief.

The option to open a .tib file with Windows Explorer still doesn't work as described in the Help file. However I can live with that as long as the Acronis Recover method works.

Thanks for the help!

Try the TibMounter patch again now that Acronis is working for the recovery within the application.

Hi Steve, I should have said that I did try the patch again, but it made no difference.

Double-clicking on the file name brings up Acronis. Right-click and Open With Explorer gets no response.

Just one last question, you are using the Microsoft Windows / File Explorer and not a third-party explorer?

Yes. I do normally use Total Commander, but to avoid any possible conflicts for this exercise I disabled it and have been using Windows File Explorer.
