Recovery problems
Tried recovery for the 1st time. OMG! Eventually, I got it to try the proper backup file. It got to the Data Recovery stage, showed the Progress bar, but no green appeared. After a bit, the computer rebooted and nothing was changed. ??? The logs seem useless.
It seems that you cannot choose the backup to recover from anymore. is this true?

The recommended procedure to perform a system restore is using the user created bootable recovery media. I suggest that you try your recovery again using that media. I believe you will find success in doing so.

You can't be serious! I've been using TrueImage for at least a decade. I've always backed up the OS as a partition, usually incrementally. I can then decide which backup file to use. If this can't be done, then why does TI backup partitions? i've never had to use bootable recovery media in the past and i do not want to do so now.

Karl, backing up is rarely a problem and can be done using the Windows ATIH application GUI or offline using the Acronis Recovery Media.
The issue is with performing a recovery on the more recent UEFI (EFI) systems.
On the legacy BIOS / MBR based Windows systems, then starting a recovery from within Windows from the ATIH GUI normally worked fine and under the covers Acronis modified the MBR to insert a temporary bootloader to launch the Acronis (linux based) recovery application.
On the newer UEFI / GPT / Secure Boot systems, this modification of the boot process can result in an unbootable system if it isn't done 100% correctly for the specific system. Your initial post suggests that there may have been a problem in this area, though the normal symptoms are that it never gets to the Acronis recover program panel and just reboots the system back into Windows.
The suggestion from Enchantech to try the Acronis recovery media is a valid way to prove that you can perform the recovery, and that you can also choose which ever backup archive image from your backup drive you want.
If you ever have a total disk failure, then the Acronis recovery media will be your only option after you have replaced the failed drive with a new one -- unless you have already made a clone of the failed drive and have it sitting on a shelf ready to be installed.

Arec you saying that 2016 doesn't work as 2014 and 2015 did? TI will make multiple backups of the OS partition. I want to choose which file to recover from. I recovered several times yesterday. However, I was never given the choice of which backup. You don't seem to be familiar with Acronis True Image. In my case the OS is on a small SSD. How can I choose which backup to recover from? If I can't do that then 2016 is crippled.

Karl, what type of backup are you wanting to choose to recover from?
When you say "TI will make multiple backups of the OS partition" - are these full / incremental / differential backup images all for the same task?
If so, then you should be able to select which particular backup to restore / recover from using a drop down list which shows the dates when the backups were created. See the ATIH 2016 User Guide: Recovering partitions and disks where it states:
To recover partitions or disks:
- Start Acronis True Image.
- If you want to recover your data from Acronis Cloud, make sure that you are signed in to your Acronis account.
- In the Backup section, select the backup which contains the partitions or disks you want to recover, and then click Recover disks.
- In the Backup version list, select the backup version you want to recover by its backup date and time.
There is a graphic image below step 4. in the User Guide which shows Backup version: at 6:31PM as an example, where you would choose your own backup by date & time - not by the backup file name.

How do I get to the Backup version list?
The graphic image in the guide shows nothing.
Ok, now I see it.
