Recovery tool doesn't see my backup disk

Thread needs solution

When I used Acronis to create an image backup of my C: drive it only gave me the option to back it up to my J: (extrenal) drive, not my D: (internal).  When I boot with the Acronis software it sees the D: drive but not the J:.  I know I can copy the 417 GB file from one drive to the other but it makes no sense I need to do that.  What else can I do?

I'm trying to move to an SSD drive that's smaller than my current C: drive so I have touse Acronis to shrink the partition as it creates it.  Yes, the contents will fit on the smaller drive.

Maybe you perforam and Entire PC backup from ATI running in Windows? That backup would include both internal disks, and maybe that explains why it doesn't see the other internal disk as a potential destination.

If you backing up from the recovery medium, then it might be a disk controller issue, if both internal disks are on different disk controllers (computers have often different disk controllers, a main one included in the chipset of the motherboard, and some auxiliary one from another vendor, for example).

The configuration is:

Old C: Sata 1, D: Sata 2, J: USB, Z: (DVD) Sata 3

I was able to restore the partition from the D: drive after copying the .tib file for J:.  By the way, after copying it to D: and rebooting Acronis was able tosee the J: drive.
