Scheduled backups not running nor does Back Up Now button initiate a backup

Thread needs solution

I have been successfully using both scheduled backups and on demand backups for a number of months after installing the 2016 version to replace my older version of Acronis. Now upon opening the program to view the start of my scheduled backup today, it did not start as scheduled, and after the appointed time had expired, the updated Next Backup showed it rescheduled for the next day, same time. When I used the Backup Now button, the backup process did not initiate. The backup destination of my secondary drive was on and recognized by the system.

HI Linda,

It may be that the destination was not ready, or already in use.  Try rebooting and see if the problem still persists.  If it does, go into the task setting and make sure you have the same items enabled as my screenshot.  That way, if the system is asleep, hopefully it will wake up (assuming power settings will allow it to) to run when it's scheduled.  If it is still missed during the scheduled time, it should run when the system becomes active again.

Bobbo, Thank you for your advice. I actually was observing the Acronis program at the time the last scheduled backup was due to begin, with the secondary destination drive on and not busy with other tasks at the appointed time. The scheduled time elapsed without initiating the backup process and there was not any error provided indicating that the backup drive was not available. I then attempted to initiate the backup manully with the BackupNow button, without any effect, numerous times.

I have rebooted and attempted the BackupNow button a number of times since with the secondary backup drive on and available, with no backup starting. I have verified the settings that you provided.

I deleted a number of older secondary backup files upon noticing that my destination drive had only 3GB more available than the required space needed to add another backup version. But doing so had no effect; the BackUp Now button is still not initiating the backup process.

Hi again Linda.

If the backup drive is nearly full, that is probably the culprit.  I'm not sure how much space is actually needed for overhead, caching, compression, etc, in Acronis, but if it's nearly full, that is probably it.

Most drives need at least 10-20% free just to work effectively (caching and moving sectors/blocks as needed to accomodate larger files) - and that's just for normal, daily use of Windows being able to do its thing in the background as files are being accessed and/or moved on the drive.

The drive may also have system protection turned on (restore points).  By default, the main OS drive (usually C: ) has this enabled.  Other drives usually need to have this turned on manually, but could be reserving space if it was.  The recycle bin on each drive may also be using space.

Long story short - if you can free up about 20% space (maybe move some files off temporarily to another drive if possible), I have a feeling you'll be able to backup again.  If not, then it's probably time to consider trying to create a new backup task and running it to see if works as inteneded or not.  I wouldnt' start troubleshooing anything else though until more storage space is freed up on the drive or it's replaced with something bigger.

Thank you again Bobbo for the valuable and detained information. I further deleted some older backup files and now the BackUpNow Button will initiate the backup process and the scheuduled backup is working as well. Your information not only solved the problem, but provided valuable reference info for further use of Acronis.

Linda

Linda,

So glad to hear it and always happy to lend a helping hand when possible!
