Single Version Scheme Question

Thread needs solution

Does the Single Version Scheme option delete the previous backup before it starts the new version?  I have a 2TB removable device that I am using to backup about 1.6TB of data...so it needs to delete the old before it backs up the new.  Thanks

Chris, as far as I am aware, nothing gets deleted until after the new backup has been created successfully.

You should be able to test this very easily by creating a single version scheme files & folders backup of a small folder then watch the target drive as you run the backup a couple of times.

I just checked and it does not delete the file till after the new backup is deleted...not exactly as the description states...ok, I will just have to delete my old backup each time.  Thx

Chris, please be aware that manually deleting backup files via such as Windows Explorer may cause error messages when you run the backup task because Acronis stores file information in its internal database which will then error due to the file being missing.  If you do this, then you should run a validation to reconcile the database information.

Personally, I would recommend breaking down your 1.6TB backup into multiple backups if possible, i.e. if you are doing an 'Entire PC' backup which comprises multiple disks and partitions, change to using Disks & Partitions backups instead and limit this to a single physical disk & its partitions, or backup specific partitions separately according to the type of data you store in them.

The alternative, of course, is to get a larger backup drive if you can afford to do so.
