Surprisingly Small backup of Windows Partition - even with No Compression. Normal?
I have done several versions of backing up my C:Windows7 OS partition (via the Disks & Partition Option.) Here are the results I'm getting, causing me to question whether all the data is truly being backed up, or not:
C: Partition Data = 93.7 GB used data (according to Windows File Manager) (256 GB SSD, one of 2 partitions of approx. 118 GB, formatted NTSF-default)
C: Backup with Normal Compresson = 31.5 GB. (i.e. 35% of full size!)
C: Backup with No Compression = 47.2 GB. (i.e. 50% of full size!)
Both seem radically too small!
By contrast, I have a larger data drive, with many audio and midi files. The original drive is 898 GB.
Meanwhile, the Normal Compression backup = 790 GB (i.e. 87% of full size. As expected.)
Is anyone else getting such small backups on an OS drive?
Thanks.

Hello Craig,
Thank you for your posting! You can configure the list of exclusions as follows: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2016/index.html#3…
Thank you,

Another point to consider is that any data that is already compressed, for example mp3 files will not be compressed further than they already are or they will be compressed less than other files that are not compressed already prior to backup.

Thank you, each.
Yes, I'm aware of the excluded files. I previously emptied temp folders and Recycle bin. So, they aren't factors. Windows Restore could account for 15-20 GB. Good point. No .mp3s or other compressed files on that drive.
Still seems particularly odd that my "no compression" scheme cut fully in half (i.e. reduction of 46 GB); and the "normal compression" - which is typically 80-90% reduced things by 2/3s.
Does anybody else have similarly radically reduced full backup file size on your C: drive?

I would say that something is a bit off in your case given that you chose the No Compression option. That should create a non-compressed backup image.
I will also say that some files compress better than others. I can tell you that using Normal Compression on a fresh Win 10 Home clean install of 32.46GB yeilded a .tib backup file of 8.34GB.
If I were you I would create a new backup task making sure that the No Compression option is checked and run it again. Do not attempt to change or modify the existing task. Your backup should be roughly the same size as the total data on disk less the excluded files/folders if any.
