True Image 2016 not working with Windows 10

Thread needs solution

True Image 2015 worked OK on Windows 10. 2016 hangs in the middle of creating a backup. I have this problem on two different machines. Any solutions or suggestions?

Many posters have solved this problem by doing a clean uninstall of 2016 using the 2015 utility and then reinstalling 2016.

hmmm.... I was just about to start a new thread- to ask if it's necessary to uninstall 2015 before installing the upgrade to 2016. If I run the uninstall routine from within Windows Control Panel "programs and features" (W8.1)- will that suffice for a "clean uninstall"? Or will installing the 2016 upgrade do this automatically?

Oh, since I haven't yet upgraded to W10- if I do manage to install Acronis 2016, is it likely I'll have the same problem after upgrading to W10?

It is not likely for you to have the problem when you upgrade to Win 10.  It is best that you follow all instructions found in the link provided when uninstalling.

I have today installed Windows 10 64 bit and installed a number of prgrams the last of which was Acronis True Image Home 2016.  The install process completed without a problem.  I have done many backups of my PC when I had Windows 8.1 and:-

  1.  from within Windows a backup of my PC (237GB) took about 40 minutes - OK
  2. using a bootable Flash drive a backup of my PC (237GB) took less than 7 minites - excellent

With Windows 10 this happened:-

  1. from within Windows (237GB) I was told the backup would take over 2 hours!!!.  I thought that this must be wrong so I waited...and waited and gave up.
  2. I created a new bootable flash drive and rebooted my PC.  The flash drive was identified, I was asked to press 1 to boot from the flash drive, I got the message "Acronis loading .....please wait" then the secreen went blank.  For me that was normal and usually  10 seconds later the Acronis backup screen would appear.  Now nothing appeared even after a 10 minute wait.  I gave up.

I have seached the online help files but nothing covers this issue.

Can someone please help me to resolve this issue.  I attach a system report.

So, I'll defnitely have to uninstall 15 before installing 16? And you recommend that "clean uninstall" routine rather than Control Panel/ Programs and Features?

I'm not thrilled about that clean uninstall routine which requires using regedit.

Joe

Joe,

Yes to uninstall 2015 prior to install 2016.  The regedit in most cases does not require the user to perform the steps outlined.  I have used the cleanup tool many times and have yet to find the leftover items inidcated still in the registry.  If they are found however you would need to manually remove them as outlined.

Stan,

Please start a new thread with your issue so that everyone will have an opportunity to respond.  Tagging on to an existing thread will limit responses.

I just did a "chat" with Acronis and asked that question- do I need to first uninstall 2015, and he said no- the installation of 2016 will do this for me. So, I'll give that a try and only go through the uninstall process if I have a problem. Now that I think about it- this is how I got from 2013 to 2015.

Enchantech,

Sorry about that.  I thought I was doing the right thing.  I have created a new thread as you suggested.

Of course Acronis Tech support will tell you that it's not necessary.  Technically it isn't as upgrades should work and often do.  However, each system has different applications, customizations, security software, malware, etc that may prevent upgrades from fully completing properly.  If you are having issues, removing Acronis, running the cleanup tool, rebooting and the reinstalling from scratch should give you a fresh install with no carry issues.  This can be the case with any applications as well, and is a standard IT practice when applications are misbehaving.  It's not ideal, but there are too many individual PC and OS variables to troubleshoot through so you'll save time in the long run and will most likely resolve your issues.
