What size/type of drive do I need for ATI? (pre-purchase question)

Thread needs solution

Do I need to use a dedicated drive with ATI, i.e. one with no other data on it?

What size does the recording drive need to be in relation to the amount of data on the source drive OR the size of the source drive? Can one be a conventional drive and the other a solid state drive?

Thanks-

No, you do not have to dedicate a drive just for Acronis.  However, you don't want to store your data and backups on the same drive in most cases as, if you lose the drive, you lose your backups and data at the same time.

There is no requirement for the type of drive to use for Acronis either - you can store images on an SSD, spinning drive or hybrid drive (although I'd stay away from hybrids and get a regular spinning drive if you are going for storage space instead of speed at a better cost point).

ATI does not require a dedicated drive.  The backup files should reside in a dedicated folder.

A conventional (spinning) drive is perfectly fine to store the backup files.  There is no issue with the source drive being SSD with the target drive being a standard HDD.

As a minimum, the data drive should be 3x the source drive.  My personal minimum is 4x.
