2 questions regarding rescue media

Thread needs solution

When creating the WinPE rescue media for my desktop I just clicked the button to download the WADK version I wanted and everything went well. I also have True Image on my laptop which I do not want online. Even though I have the WADK file on the laptop the only option appears to be "download". Is there a way to create the rescue media using a file from the laptop? On a related note...I created the 'generic' Bootable Rescue Media USB drive. There are some .sgn files that have been assigned to open with one of my music editors - don't know why. What program should I assign to those files and does it even matter? Thank you for your attention.

DCloud, welcome to these user forums.

If you already have the Window ADK installed on your desktop then you can create the WinPe Rescue Media on that computer and you should be able to use it on your laptop too.

I would recommend using the MVP Tool - CUSTOM ATI WINPE BUILDER as this will also allow you to include any additional device drivers that may be needed for the laptop.  This should be created on a USB memory stick for the best flexibility.

The .sgn files are not meant to be opened in Windows.  They are Linux files that are called on only from the rescue media.  I would just leave the file association alone and plan on not trying to mess with the .sgn files, or any of the files on the Linux version of the rescue media in Windows.  At most, you can make some manipulations to the .xml files, but it's not necessary (or recommended).  Basically, once the Linux rescue media is created, it should be set and forget and just plug it in when it's time to boot to it to do an offline backup, restore or clone.
