2017 install hangs on Win 10 1809
I've been dealing with the dreaded "acronis is terminating current operation" at shutdown on a ThinkPad 25 running Win 10 1809. I have nothing scheduled (at all) for backup or verification so this should not be happening.
Decided to just nuke the install with the cleanup tool and reinstall. Latest 2017 installer gets as far as the installshield wizard and hangs at 0%. Can't be canceled - even via task manager.
At a loss as to how to get TIH back on this machine - for which it is licensed.
thanks

William, hope the reinstalled 2017 continues to work for you without issue.

Hi guys, Happy New Year,
My installation of 2017 was fine, program runs fine, but as soon as I click "Proceed", it prompts for a mandatory Restart.
It then does not restart Windows, hang on a black screen.
Any fix for that?
Or do I just buy the newest version?
Thanks

Tony, what exactly are you doing when you are pressing 'Proceed'? A restart is only normally expected when doing a Restore, Recovery or Clone type operation, not for any Backup tasks?

Mr.Smith,
I am trying to clone. All the hardware seems to be in working order.
Remind me, do I need to format the brand new SSD beforehand?
Thanks

Tony, thank you for confirming what you are trying to do. Please see forum topic: [IMPORTANT] CLONING - How NOT to do this
This topic was written for older versions of ATI before 2018/2019 which did not offer the new option to perform 'Active Cloning' by using the Microsoft VSS snapshot process.
Please do ensure you have a good full backup of your source drive for the clone before attempting this again, and I would strongly recommend that you create and use the Acronis Rescue Media to do this type of action, not to start from the Windows ATI application.

Thank you sir!
So, do I need to format my blank SSD first?

No, the first action of any Clone operation will be to 'clean' the target drive, so this would remove any existing format from the drive in order to prepare it for the partition(s) structure found in the backup image.

The only action that may be needed Tony would be to 'Add new drive' if ATI does not 'see' your brand new blank SSD drive to use a the target drive.
