64 bit vs 32 bit on boot media

Thread needs solution

I am running a very old version of TI, about 6 years old, i was round my friends house the other day and he only ever uses the boot cd/dvd option you have and when i saw it run it had the option of using 32 or 64 bit which seemed pointless to me giving he would not be in a 64 bit OS, so can you tell me what is the point of the 64 bit option and is it something i should look at? I do run  win 7 U x64 but as i say i can see no point to me upgrading or have i got the wrong end of the stick?

32-bit works fine in almost every instance.  The old Acronis media is legacy (MBR/bios) only though so always boots in legacy mode.  Newer media is legacy and/or UEFI/GPT capable. If your system is UEFI and 64-bit and you boot the media in UEFI mode, then only 64-bit will be available.

Just be aware that not all system support both legacy and UEFI mode.  For instance, I have an ASUS Transformer T200 and before that an Acer Aspire switch 10.  Both are 100% uefi only so older versions of Acronis would not work on these as the bios on these 2 systems has no legacy/CSM option that can be turned on.  As a result, since booted into UEFI mode for the media the Acer Aspire (being a 32 bit system) only shows 32-bit Acronis options and the Asus Transformer T200 (being only a 64-bit system) only shows 64-bit UEFI boot options on the Acronis media.

Hi Bobbo thanks for the reply i think i'm lucky and have both legacy and UEFI motherboard is a Asus Z87 Deluxe and i do get the option of booting from the CD in either legacy and UEFI mode, i think i might move into the new world and upgrade just for the hell of it.
