ATI 2017 20.0 Build 5554 gives false report on restoring c (os) to SSD
I backed up my WD 2TB Disk0 - EFI system partition & C (win10) partition 154GB to an external drive.
I restored the EFI system partition to the beginning of an unformatted SSD drive Disk2. successfull!
I restored the C (win10) partition to the remaining 232GB unalloated space on the SSD drive Disk2. Successfull!
I checked the Disk Manager and Disk2 has only 1 EFI system partition.
I tried 3 times still unallocated space where C (win10) should be.
I did not try doing it from boot cd.
Any suggestions?

When you use the boot CD make sure you are not in a Hybrid Sleep state (aka hibernation) due to Windows Fast Start. If you do a Restart instead of Shutdown this will do a full shutdown before booting from the CD (or USB stick).

Are you saying shut down instead of restarting or restart ?

Michael, no - the opposite way round. If Windows Fast Start or Hybrid Sleep is enabled, then using Shutdown will put the computer into that hybrid sleep / hibernation mode but using Restart will force a full shutdown before then starting up again to where you can choose the boot device?
On some systems you can choose such as the F12 key at boot (Dell, Lenovo...) or F9 (HP) to get to the boot device selection menu. It depends on your computer BIOS as to what option key you may need to use, otherwise you may need to change the Boot Priority to put your boot device (USB key or CD/DVD) ahead of your HDD/SSD OS boot device.

You can also hold down the Shift key and select Restart then Win 10 will present you with a graphical screen with boot options of devices attached to your machine. You need to be patient here though as it will take some time to restart and show the options.
