COnfused as to how to create System image and Bootable Disck

Thread needs solution

Can't  copy and paste my question here?

I am new to Acronis and  don't know if I want to  purchase it. Seems too hard for an old person like myself.

Any way maybe  you can hlep. I read all I could find about what I would lke to do but Don't get it. Too hard for me.

I want to make a sytem image and a Bootable disk. Which do I make first?

Are they  both done on the same  backup disck or on seperate discs?  If on teh same disck which is first?(I just bought a Pssport  drive and have

other small Thumb drives I think they are called to do this if needed).

If I make them on seperate discks does it matter which I make first then?

I don't want to make an error. so I am asking here for your help.

Thank you very much.

You need 3 disks

1) The original disk - this is what you want to backup - your current operationg system and/or data.

2) A secondary drive that is capable of housing at least 2 backups (ideally) - at least big enought to house one backu of your main disk.

3) A small usb flash drive (or you can create a CD/DVD instead) to use as your rescue media.  This is something you boot to, in the event that your OS is unusable and you need to recover from a backup.  Acronis proivdes an .iso (a virtual disk that can be burned to a CD/DVD as long as you can log into your account and download it - no need to install anything to get access to this, but should be burned to a CD/DVD and tested before something bad happens.  If/when you install the Acronis application, you can create this file, or burn directly to a CD/DVD or create a bootable recovery USB flash drive.

As far as how the application in Windows works once it's installed, I'd recommend checking out these user provided Youtube videos.

And here are some that explain how the recoveyr process with your bootable rescue media would work.

Bootable disk, refered to officially as Recovery or Rescue Media is made to a USB flash drive or CD/DVD.  In the Tools section of the application you will find a Media Builder tool that will create this boot media.

You can use your passport drive to store a created Image of the hard disk in your PC.  Follow the instructions in the documentation to create a Backup of your hard disk and select the Passport drive as the destination device.

e c, welcome to these user forums.

To try to keep this as simple as possible, let's first define what is meant by having a System Image, and a Bootable disk.

A System Image (in Acronis speak) is a full backup of your Windows OS disk drive that includes all required partitions to enable you to be able to recover your OS to a brand new (empty) disk drive should your current drive die on you.

By definition of what the System Image is, this needs to be stored on another disk drive, so on your Passport USB external disk drive is a good place to put this backup file.

A Bootable disk (again in Acronis speak) is referred to as the Acronis bootable Rescue Media which can be created on CD, DVD or a USB memory stick, and this is used to boot your system when needed instead of booting into your Windows OS.  It is this boot media that makes possible the recovery in the event of a your OS disk drive dying as the recovery of your System Image to a new disk drive is performed by using this boot media.

It doesn't really matter which of these you create first - both are important and you will potentially need both in order to be fully protected.

See KB 58816: Acronis True Image 2017: Creating Acronis Bootable Media for help on how to create the bootable media.  It is important to test this media will work on your computer after you have created it as you do not want to find yourself in a situation where you need it for recovery only to find that it doesn't work for some reason!

See also KB 59184: Acronis True Image 2017: How to create a WinPE-based bootable media which is an alternative type of the bootable media which can also be created.  You will only need to make this media if the first type of media does not work on your computer.

See KB 58570: Acronis True Image 2017: Entire Computer Backup and KB 58535: Acronis True Image 2017: Backing Up Individual Disks or Files for help on the subject of making the System image backup, both of these include a video tutorial to help you understand the process.
