High CPU Load on Hardware Interrupts

Thread needs solution

Hello everybody,

I am facing this problem for some while now and I think I would like to know if anyone else is facing it.

While acronis validates the backup, which is situated on a NAS, my CPU Load on Hardware Interrupts will rise up to 25-30% per cent. When acronis does the backup itself it is at a normal level 0.01. It wouldn't be annoying if it wouldn't cause problems with the audio or with reaction time of my mouse or keyboard, but it does.

So I wonder, if there there is someone who is facing the sam issue, or that it is simply my PC? And further more if anyone knows what could cause it. I tried to reinstall acronis completely but I had no success in solving the issue. My Anti-Virus was uninstalled once to verify that there is no connection between them.

I hope that there is anybody out there who got an idea. I try to deliver requested information asap.

Best Regards,

Andre

Andre, welcome to these user forums.

I do not recall seeing any reports of similar behaviour with reference to CPU load on hardware interrupts when doing validation.

Have you tried turning off the validation action in the Advanced settings page for the backup task to your NAS to confirm that it is definitely this action that is causing the CPU load?

I personally do not do validation as part of my backup tasks as this is essentially just recalculating the checksum for the backup image file and then comparing this to the value stored with the file.  The real test for the backup integrity is if you can open / navigate its content and restore data from it.

Another check, does this happen for any local backups (not going to your NAS)?

Hey Steve,

thanks for your response.

Yes, i can confirm that it is related to the validation process. I may try a storage on a local HDD, but if it is just a checksum check, I think I'll skip the validation prcoess and just open the backup file itself after backup is done.

I have to admit that I didn't check at all what that validation does, just thought "mmh will not hurt me if it does a validation".

Andre, if you are concerned over the CPU impact of doing validation, then open a Support Case for this which will enable Acronis to investigate why this is so.  Otherwise, checking that you can open the backup images and navigate around their contents etc, is as good as just checking a checksum.

Hello Andre,

If you have a non-subscription license and build 5554, then please check the Account tab of the program - an update should be available there. The update (build 8029) contains a number of fixes and stability improvements. I have not found any mentioning of "hardware interrupts" in our internal known issues tracker.

In addition to updating to 8029, you can try removing the program with the Cleanup Tool, verify that the issue goes away, then install the latest build (download the installer from http://account.acronis.com/) and see if the problem reproduces.

If you are able to locate which driver or process of Acronis True Image is causing the problem, then we could see if it can be safely disabled as a workaround.

You can submit a support ticket from http://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html.

Regards,

Slava
