Lightscribe on HP Paviolion DV7
So, I have looked on the forum and in the knowledge base and have not found this problem so will post a new topic. I have a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop with a BC-5541H Blu-Ray/DVD drive with Lightscribe. I installed the new Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation on my laptop and the Lightscribe feature on my drive went away. It still shows the same drive in Windows 10 (64) Device Manager but after installation my Lightscribe Control Panel and Surething Disc Labeler 6 no longer show that there is a Lightscribe device installed on my computer. Went back and uninstalled the True Image 2017 NG and the Lightscribe feature was back. Looking for a solution, workaround or if previously unreported to Acronis, then letting them know of the problem. Thank you.

That is curious. I suggest that you report it to Acronis support.

Kevin, you may also want to look at the Active Protection logs which can be found at:
C:\ProgramData\Acronis\ActiveProtection\Logs\
You will probably have several logs in this folder, but look through some of the earliest logs from when you first installed ATIH 2017 NG, you can open the logs in Notepad or similar text editor.
Search in the logs for 'not trusted' which should show you any executable files which were not considered as trustworthy by Active Protection. You may need to add any related to your Lightscribe feature to the 'Manage Permissions' list that you will find in the Settings page of the main ATIH 2017 NG main GUI - click on the 'Manage permissions' button after which click on the 'Add' button and navigate to select the program path to be added, and do this for any other programs that are to be added to the permission list.

I have two systems with LG drives that support Lightscribe. Not sure if I renistalled the control panel when I reloaded Win 10 64 Pro before Christmas - I will check and report back. May take a day or two for me to get around to it. Things are a little bit out of control here.

Thanks Ian,
Before I took off Acronis I tried several times to reinstall the Lightscribe Control Panel and each time it would install correctly, but still would not recognize the the HP Blu-ray disk drive was a Lightscribe drive.

I tried to install various LightScribe drivers on my system (including the latest HP one) and got a message that the OS did not support the application. I was able to install the Cyberlink software that came with the LG drive. When I try to burn to using Lightscribe I get a message that the lightscribe program is blocked by Acronis Malware protection. Once that happens I no longer have the choice to do so. If I can find the correct driver I will add it to the approved applications list.

Had a look at the log file and found the following entries (which may help you in overcoming the problem):
017-02-06 08:36:58:773 4036 I00000000: [driver] Process [15975 (internal), 14764 (system-wide), "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe"] has started
2017-02-06 08:36:58:776 4036 I00000000: Verification of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe" by embedded certificate: no signature (-2146762496)
2017-02-06 08:36:58:784 4036 I00000000: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe" can't be trusted
2017-02-06 08:36:58:784 4036 I00000000: Setting the trust status of [15975 (internal), 14764 (system-wide), "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe"] to 'not trusted': success
2017-02-06 08:36:58:784 3928 I00000000: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe" can't be trusted (cache)
It is probable that LightScribe is in the same directory on yours system, so you can add it to the trusted list: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe
I suspect that you may need to reboot the system for the exclusion to start working.
Hope this helps

It gets murkier. It appears the HP stopped development of LightScribe in 2014 and the necessary resources are no longer avaiable to run it. You need to have the inventory of supported devices, and the download link is no longer available.
So for you it looks like LightScribe is dead. You could try using the HP recovery media to revert to 'as new' condition, but again you will not be able to download the supported devises listing and there may not be any information in the recoved installation.

Try http://www.lightscribe.org/ instead of .com. I was able to find some info. And I have LG DVD/BR drives whose lightscribe capabilities were also erased by Acronis 2017. Maybe someone should fix that issue in the next release? I have been unable to add anything to the exclusions listing.

Frank, I would recommend opening a Support Case for this issue with lightscribe if Acronis Active Protection is deeming these files to be not trusted and all is working fine for you otherwsie with the lightscribe functions.
AAP is very new and the developers should look into these false positive reports and also ensure that if you add the files to the Manage Permissions list that this is respected.

I did submit a support case with Acronis and have discovered that it is a conflict between AAP and the Lightscribe service. I put the Lightscribe Service, C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe, in the trusted apps of AAP but that did not fix it. Have found that restarting the Lightscribe service using taskmanager works, but only until I reboot my computer. I even turned off AAP, but still it blocks the Lightscribe service. At least I have it working, even if it is a work around.

Kevin, thanks for your feedback on this issue. If AAP is ignoring your trusted apps setting for the lightscribe program then you should add this to your support case, have it reopened if needed, as this should be possible to exclude and not have AAP block it regardless!
