New Update for Acronis True Image 2017 Disaster
I want to warn a lot of people that when I was prompted by the Acronis True Image 2017 program to down load the "new" update for the software, it produced an utter disaster. It virtually wrecked my machine. Luckily I had a backup with the "old" disk image before this update was installed and it saved my bacon.
This happened on 9/22/2016. The disaster not only caused problems with the Acronis program but with a lot of other programs. I hope that no one will have to go through this problem like I did. A new update for Windows 10 had just been installed on my computer (which took hours) on 9/21/2016 and this may have been the root cause of the problem. This Window 10 update was called "Feature Update to Windows 10 Version 1607". The Acronis update may be incompatible with Window 10 update. Be warned. I am still using the "older" version of Acronis 2017 but with the new Windows 10 update. This works just fine.

The reason I know is that I received the Windows10 update several days earlier and then created the Acronis 2017 backup and saved it. Every thing worked great. Then I was messing around with my Acronis 2017 and got a prompt to update to a new Acronis 2017. I did so, then the mayhem commenced. I then restored back to the "old" but "new" Windows 10 image. No problem again. I then got the "same prompt" to update the Acronis 2017 again but I did not do it and removed the option to automatically check for Acronis updates. It has been fat city ever since. I cannot definitely prove that the Acronis update was the problem but the circumstantial evidence is strong. The way I rebuilt the system was too simple to be otherwise. I do not know what the problem actually was with the Acronis update but the patient responded the way I said. I am not going to risk another go around. Would you? I spent several "all nigthers" rectifying this situation. Backups and restores take a long time. I am glad you have had good luck with yours and my problem may have been a special case. Who knows?

I'm a geek at heart, so I would test :). I would pull the original drive and pop in a spare, restore the image to it and then run the update again and see if the behavior is repeatable or not.
However, I understand that's not for everyone and probably more time than you'd care to spend on it, but also probably the only way to determine if the behavior is repeatable and more definitive of the update being the issue. How long does a restore take for you (are you restoring to an SSD or spinner and how much data? My SSD to SSD restores of an 80GB OS generally take about 7-10 minutes.. restores from the NAS vary though, but usually are within 30 minutes).
For what it's worth, and perhaps peace of mind down the road, whenever the application notifies me there is an update, I go and grab the full installer from my account and download it locally. I then close Acronis down and run the installer (making sure to use right-click and "run as administrator". Again though, this is just me and something I have gotten into the habit of doing for all major application updates. Working in IT, it's just saved a lot of gee-whiz moments and seems to provide a bit more stability. Others have posted the in-app updates went off without a hitch though.

Same thing here! Had exactly the same problem last time (last upgrade). Now impossible to get the laptop to start. This happen while rebooting after the update. This is truly useless as it would s the second time it happens. Note that the PC updated entirely recently and was working perfectly fine. Will not use this program again.
