Options: Advanced: Performance: Snapshot for backup. Where is this documented?

Thread needs solution

Behind the Options (Disk backup options), on the Advanced tab, in the Performance section is the Snapshot for backup selection.  It has four options: No snapshot, VSS, Acronis snapshot and VSS without writers.

I read through and searched the user guide, FAQs, forums and knowledge base, but was unable to find any documentation on what the four options mean in order to make an informed decision about which one to use.

I know that VSS stands for Volume Shadow Service and is a snapshot of your HDD at a point in time from which a backup can be done.  And the No snapshot option is obvious.  But what about Acronis snapshot and VSS without writers?  Does anyone know where I can find documentation on these options?

Thanks,

Bill...

Bill, welcome to these user forums.

This is a change introduced in the 2017 New Generation product version but there is a KB document that speaks to these options, please see KB 59440: Acronis True Image 2017: 'Snapshot for backup' option overview

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your quick reply!  That answers my question exactly.

When I searched the knowledge base for "Snapshot for backup" (both as a quoted phrase and as three individual words), that article was not found.  But when I searched for the article number 59440, it was found.  Maybe the search index needs to be rebuilt?

Bill, there has been some changes to both the Acronis Forums software and perhaps the KB too recently which has left some of the search functions a little lacking, especially with the removal of the option to sort search results by date in the forums.  The MVP's have been pressing Acronis to restore some of that search functionality but it hasn't happened as yet!

Glad to have been able to help with your quest for information.
