Recovery an old windows xp .tib from windows 10
I tried to recover to an old windows xp .tib from windows 10 and now i can't even get anything to boot. I would just destroy the compluter but I can't get it to boot anything. Can you tell me how I might destroy the computer and financial info on it.

Yes I did use ATI 2017's rescue media...from a stick. I never could get any disk's to work. I had ATI rescue medias 2014 and 2011 on disks. The ATI2017 opened up and seemed like it was going to work but then said it couldn't and just blanked out. My computer is ACER aspire and qualified for free win10 conversion from win8. I have several disks versions of rescue media...none worked. Yes, I did a full win10 backup before trying the recover of winxp. It would be fine to go back to if I knew how to get that far. Before writing I gave up and was really looking for a way to totally blank out the hard drive because of financial and personal information.

Drive issues are likely to be the main explanation. It is probable that the XP system used IDE rather than SATA HDD and this would mean that there are no drivers for the SATA drives, or for the PC chipset. Update: Just had another look at your initial post and you appear to have done the recovery from within Windows, and this can occasionally go wrong due to the need to create Linux Rescue environment on the computer. It results in the boot-loader being damaged.
It is not clear whey you need to recover the XP installation; if you wanted to recover document you may, depending on which version of Acronis was used to create the backup, be able to mount the image and recover those files. Just noticed that you refer to "looking for a way to totally blank out the hard drive because of financial and personal information". Not sure what you intend doing; are you referring to the HDD on which the disk image was contained, if so there would be no need to recover the image, just delete it. If you want to be doubly sure use the Acronis Drive Cleanser tool. But it may be that I just do not understand what you were trying to do.
I would suggest that you recover your Windows 10 installation from your most recent backup using the recovery media. Hopefully the PC does not require any special drivers, ones that are not included in the default Linux recovery media which you can download from the Acronis site. This would require the use of a CD/DVD drive, if the computer does not have one and you do not have a USB CD/DVD drive you will need to create recovery media on USB stick with a utility such a Rufus which burn a bootable version of DVD iso to a USB stick.
Please post back if you need further help in doing the recovery.

Thanks Ian, No I was outside of windows each time I tried to recover and as indicated I "tried" to use both disks as well as sticks. Only one stick (ATI2017) worked. It only presented the first page of options and when I tried to use that I got a single message that it wouldn't work. So in short I got nothing from nothing.
I foolishly thought I could got back to winxp to get rid of a problem I was having with a 5 minute delay and error message each time I booted win10. Win10 did always eventually work and I should have been happy with that. While I would be happy with that now, I can't even boot far enough to use the recovery media (ATI2017). I have no I repeat no options that I know of. All of which brings me back to my default question...do you have knowledge of anything that can successfully delete everything from the hard drive so I can just write this off as a stupid move on my part and keep any evil person with more knowledge than I from my personal and financial information.

Charles, the first thing that you need to do here is to get the computer to boot again. As you have already installed and activated Windows 10 on that computer, then you can download the Windows 10 installation media, create this on either DVD media or using a USB Stick.
See webpage: Download Windows 10 which will let you Create Windows 10 installation media using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool which you can download.
The key here is to download the same version of Windows 10 as you had installed on this computer, i.e. Windows 10 Home or Professional - this needs to be the same as you have activated on this computer before.
Create the installation media and boot from this then take the option to do a new clean install of Windows 10, which will completely format your internal disk drive, wiping out all the issues that have arisen from restoring Windows XP.
Once you get back to having a working Windows 10 system, then you can consider whether you want to try to restore back your Windows 10 system backup that you made before doing the XP restore.

I made some progress but not enough. I found that the recovery media disk for ATI2014 would allow me to put the .tib file onto the hard disk but after doing so I only had a blinking white light in the upper left corner of the desktop. It was encouraging but still nothing. I am sure there is a copy of win10 there but the computer can't find it. Does this mean anything I can rectify?

Charles, when you say that the ATI2014 Rescue Media allowed you to put the .tib file onto the hard disk - what exactly are you doing?
It almost sounds as if you are just copying the .tib file 'as is' to the hard disk whereas you need to be restoring the .tib file contents to the disk drive?
If you are using another computer to post updates to these forums, then please follow the advice in my previous reply and use the Microsoft Media Creation tool to create the Windows 10 Installation media, then test booting your computer from that media.

I used the rescue media to reinstall the .tib file I made before I the effort to install the winxp. I got a sign saying you have successfully installed the file (not the exact wording) but when I tried to boot as I would always do I didn't get anything. I am, of course, aware that I have to Install rather than try to just dump the .tib file somewhere. I couldn't do that if I wanted to. I still cannot get past the blinking white light.

I found the software I needed to completely delete the hard drive and I am satisfied. Its less expensive to just buy another than to pay someone to try to fix this.

Charles, if the drive is still good, then erasing the drive and starting over is a good way to go. Acronis Drive Cleanser is included in the product and on the Rescue media if this can be booted / used. If the drive is failing, then a good old fashioned hammer will render the drive unusable for any attempts of forensic recovery, especially used in conjunction with a sharp punch tool.
