Restore from samsung 512G ssd to Samsung 1T ssd unable to boot

Thread needs solution

My Samsung SM951 512GB M.2 PCI-e AHCI SSD is at 20G free so got a 1TB Samsung Polaris SM961 NVMe, MLC, M.2 SSD to upgrade.

Successfully restored but blue screen with unaccessable boot device message. tried skipping the track 0 then I installed windows to the new drive, which worked fine and then restored again, still no boot. If I was trying to replace a failed drive instead of upgrading it would be the same and presumably I should be able to restore to a new drive.

Might it be going from AHCI to NVMe thats the problem? obviously installing direct worked fine.

Help me obiwan kenobies i'm going nuts.

Asus rampage V extreme mobo.

Stephen, welcome to these User Forums.

I would recommend checking was actual disk controller mode your NVMe M.2 SSD drive is using, I suspect this may be using RAID and these drivers are missing from the OS you have restored to this drive?

What steps have you taken for this migration, i.e. did you have the new NVMe drive installed in the computer when you made the backup of the original SSD so that any additional device drivers were included?  I am assuming that the 2 drives occupy different hardware locations being one is PCIe and the other NVMe?
