As i understand, you would like to recover your disk backup on your virtual machine created by VmWere application. Am I correct?

NO.I made a backup or disc image of my SSD. I subsequently wrote that to my internal HDD so that I could dual boot the HDD and the SSD. Now I have installed VMWARE Pro on the SSD. I now want to use that same image I created of the SSD and create a virtual machine out of it. How do I do that. The image is on an external USB drive.

Thank you for sharing the details. As i understand, you would like to know how to convert the image backup file(.tib) into the .vhd(x) format. Am I correct?

Using Acronis True Image 2017 you will not be able to convert the image backup file(.tib) into the .vhd(x) format. This feature is included in the latest version of Acronis True Image, Acronis True Image 2018.

Users of the Enterprise and Ultimate editions of Windows 7 and later Windows versions can convert a .tib image of the system partition into the .vhd(x) format if they want to use the converted .vhd(x) file for booting the operating system. Or, they may want to get the ability to mount images without using Acronis True Image 2018.

I DON'T WANT

Do I need to convert the tib file to VHD?? Can I convert the tib file to an ISO file and then just have VMWARE install it that way just like any other MS ISO file?

Unfortunately, you can not convert .tib file to ISO file.

So you are saying that there is no work around?? I cannot use my current backup of my SSD created by TI 2017 and have VMWARE Pro create a virtual machine?

Dan, please have a read of forum topic: How to convert .tib to VM?  which may offer you a way of doing what you are trying here.

True Image 2018

Converting Acronis backup

Users of the Enterprise and Ultimate editions of Windows 7 and later Windows versions can convert a .tib image of the system partition into the .vhd(x) format if they want to use the converted .vhd(x) file for booting the operating system. Or, they may want to get the ability to mount images without using Acronis True Image 2018.

To convert an Acronis disk image (.tib file) to a Windows backup (.vhd(x) file):

  1. Start Acronis True Image 2018.
  2. Go to the Backup section.
  3. In the backup list, click the down arrow icon next to the backup that you want to convert, and then click Convert to VHD.

If the backup is password-protected, Acronis True Image 2018 will ask for it. Note that the resulting .vhd(x) file will lose password protection.

  1. Select the backup version that you want to convert.

Converting an incremental backup requires all the previous incremental backups and the original full backup. Converting a differential backup requires the original full backup. The result of conversion is always a full backup.

  1. Specify the path to the file to be created.

The file can be directed to any local storage supported by Acronis True Image 2018 (except the Acronis Secure Zone and CD/DVD). In addition, it can be directed to an SMB share.

  1. [Optional step] While the backup is being converted, you can select the Start virtual machine after completion check box. If it is selected, Acronis True Image 2018 will restart your computer and run Hyper-V virtual machine by using the created .vhd(x) file.

When a .tib image selected for conversion contains partitions, for example, from two physical hard disk drives, the program will create two .vhd(x) files corresponding to those physical drives.
