Two independent labs name Acronis the best backup

Thread needs solution

Its a shame whoever decided to send this e-mail advertisement today was not confident enough to provide links to said independant tests and the results. Makes me think it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Ray, the only way to get an answer to who those independant labs might be would be to contact Acronis directly - try sending a PM to Gaidar, General Manager Acronis True Image and see if he is able / willing to share this information with you?

Agree with Seve for an exact answer.  Top Ten Review site ranks Acronis as number 2 in the field earning a Silver ranking.

@Enchantec - having read the reviews on the link you posted it does depend what your looking for in a backup program. Everyone to their own but my feeling is Acronis is just trying to put out some propagander. The Acronis forums seem to be full of issues where as others are not so busy and fixes come out very quickly on some of those if there are issues.

Have a good look at the rest of the product Forums out there, you will see posts from people having issues.  Reason is that people post to Forums when they have issues and they are looking for answers.  They do not post, in most cases, to praise or leave positive comments.

As you say, to each their own!

The most important assessement was made by the independent laboratory MRG Effitas (one of the most important laboratories in anti-malware tests):

https://www.mrg-effitas.com/

There you can find the "MRG-Effitas-Comparative-assessment-of-Data-protection_backup-products" and download the little PDF report.

Acronis TI 2017 New Generation is the only one completely effective against ransomware (if you use the options available in the app...).

Francisco,

Thanks for the pointer. It needs some further digesting but I saw this comment on a very brief scan:

"The reason why some backup files were not encrypted in all but the Acronis backup solution is not because
the backup software protected the files, but because the ransomware was not targeting the backup files."

So does that mean none of the ransomeware used was looking for Acronis files? It's not that clear, and it seems that the result may be just luck than actual capability.

Ray, I would suspect that the ransomware was not targetting the Acronis files though I would like to hope that the Acronis Active Protection function for ATIH 2017 New Generation would quickly detect and prevent ransomware from either attacking backup files or encrypting any other files, as that is how it is presented as being able to do!

The latest Wannacry ransomware threat spreading across the world targets a wide range of file types according to information I have read recently but this didn't include our specific files but again, I would not trust in that always being the case.  These are public forums and any discussion aired here can also be visible to those behind such malware threats!
