What services, processes and start up programs can I safely turn off? & can I turn off?
Win 7 pro X64, ATIH 2017 Fam Pack
I schedule backups and run backups on demand. In previous versions, I turn off Non-stop service & sync agent.
I won't be using mobile backup, so presumably, I can turn that one off. What else can I turn off?
I also keep a tight leash on my systems and use a third party firewall. My last version (2014 prem), I blocked everything from outbound traffic, including activator (once it activated the first time). Any problem with blocking activator and other outbound traffic (again, once it's activated).
Thanks.

Basically I disable NSB and the mobile services, but leave the main ones running. The scripts have the names of the services and what they do... mmsminisrv = Acronis Managed Machine Service Mini afcdpsrv = Acronis Nonstop Backup Service ArcSch2Svc = Acronis Scheduler 2 Service syncagentsrv = Acronis Sync Agent Service mobile_backup_server = Acronis Mobile Backup Server mobile_backup_status_server = Acronis Mobile Backup Status Server Haven't seen an updated KB article for 2017, but here's the one from 2016: https://kb.acronis.com/content/56697
Thanks Bobbo. That's helpful. I already turned off mobile serivces, OS selector. I assume that the services I MUST leave on, for my purposes of manual and scheduled backups only is Acronis Scheduler 2 ?
Is Managed Machine Services Mini required in my case? I purchased the 5 computer upgrade. I do have it disabled now and haven't noticed any issues.
In MSconfig, I am allowing Tib Mounter and Acronis Scheduler.
I did notice that Bonjour service was installed (running mdnsresponder.exe). I installed one other program, but I'm assuming that Acronis was the culprit there. Turned off.
One thing I noticed...I was not presented with the option of a different install path. I don't care for that, since I install my programs to an app partition.

You can kill Bonjour - it's being used to help with NAS discovery on the local network, but not needed as you can still use the browse >>> network option instead or enter the full UNC patch of your NAS share (if you have one).
Managed machine services mini is for communicating with the family dashboard - if you don't use it, you can disable that one too.
I don't think Acronis has ever allowed an installation location other than the default. I imagine that it's to ensure that it's installed to the local drive as it is integrated into the OS with specifific Acronis drivers. No luck changing this behavior with this application, but feel free to submit feedback to Acronis through the application. Perhaps if enough people request it, you might see the option at some point.

Thanks for the additional information. Regarding the install path, I have been installing ATIH to the app drive for many versions over several years. It still installed system files in the system drive directories, but the program files & dll's installed to the apps partition. ATI 2014 was the last version I had, however, so it may have changed in the last few years.
I guess having it on the system drive really doesn't matter though. Thanks for the confirmation on the non-mandatory services, and the batch files. Much appreciated.

Ahh, thanks for the info - been awhile since I used 2014, but always took the defaults myself. The 2015 and upward approach seems to be to try and simplify the application and interface (dumbed down is how some have described it) in an attempt to make the application easier to use for non-techies. Not sure if I agree with all of the changes and I definitely miss some of the old features (like an integrated log), but guessing that's where the ability to change the install path has gone as well.
Glad to help.

Hi Andros,
Just FYI if you're still stopping/starting services...
I've updated common service (stop/start) .bat scripts to include those added with the 2017 NG version that was just released. These can be run on any version of Acronis 2015 to the current 2017 NG version. Personally, I like my backup program running light and really look to the backup functionality of the PC as my main priority so I usually set everything except for the scheduler to stopped and disabled. These are easy to customize to your own liking though as you can simply add double colons (::) to comment out something, or remove them to enable them
