Winodws update KB4020104 breaks Acronis 2017

Since this update (KB4020104) was automatically installed 26-May 2017 on my Windows 10 Current update, I have not been able to create a backup. The system is an ASUS Z97-Pro, Intel I7, Nvidia GT640 graphics card, 16 GB memory, 500GB SSD. I have researched the web and found many supposed answers for this, add Acronis files to your AV software exclusions, remove all Java apps or exclude them from your backup, try using different parameters for the backup. None worked. I uninstalled, used Acronis cleaner, reinstalled freshly downloaded, from Acronis, current program, 8053. I did this many times. FYI this program only uninstalls Acronis True Image, not any of the Acronis utilities. No joy. I finally looked at the date of my last good backup, 25-May. I also found that the update KB4020104 was installed 26-May. I uninstalled the update and everything worked. Thanks Microsoft, another three days wasted because of faulty updates.

Strange - searching in both Google and the Microsoft Update Catalog does not find any hits for KB4020104..?  Perhaps it has been withdrawn?

Can you be more specific about what the failure is?

Hello,

Just Curious....  What version of Windows 10 ?  32 or 64, Home or Pro ?

My latest update was:

2017-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4020102)

Successfully installed on 5/27/2017

Nothing new since then and my TIH does not seem to be broken.

Nervous that eh 104 update will break mine too...

For some reason I am not seeing any of the replies to this thread. I it just me? The same problem is happening with a thread on one of the other forums on this site. I've cleared cache and cookies, but still no luck. If someone has a suggestion, please PM me as I may not be able to see the replies.

I don't see this update on my Win 10 system and no updates are showing available - is that the correct patch (KB4020104) - Google comes up with a goose egg for that particular one.

All seems to be working for me though - just curious where the backup location is set (external USB, NAS, Cloud?) in case that may have any other clue as to the particular issue..

Also, which version of the Acronis cleaner did you run and what was left behind after running it?  I've had really good success removing Acronis from control panel and then running the cleanup tool afterwards (when I've needed to). Make sure you always install or run the cleanup by right-clicking and using the "run as administrator" option - even if you're logged in with an admin account already - that is the only way to elevate the full potential of the admin account for installer packages (or uninstallers - anything that you really want to run as admin).
