ATI WinRE recovery tool - validation of copied .tib file fails

Thread needs solution

I copy ATI backup files to a NAS for safe keeping.  Yesterday I decided I'd better perform a validation from a Recovery Medium tool and the validation failed.  I don't know whether this is a problem with the copy or with the Recovery Medium.

I will have to boot the Recovery system again to get the exact failure message, but it implied ATI could not find the original backup. That was when it was pointing at a copy of the original backup.  I have no idea if there was an error in the copy but the original and copy lengths are identical.

When I pointed to the original file the validation proceeded but I cancelled it since it would have taken hours.

Is there an ATI limitation that it cannot process a .tib file that has been copied or moved from its original location or device type?   The original location was on a USB-attached external drive.  The NAS is a Synology DS218.  The copy was done via FTP using a client and server that have no trouble exceeding the old 2GB file size limit.

I was using a custom WinRE Recovery Medium using the v182 PE Builder.  I can't guarantee it had all needed drivers, but it had no trouble reading the NAS's directory.

Any idea where I should start looking for a solution?  The copy of the .tib files does me no good if ATI can't use them.

Patrick, are your backup files on the NAS exactly the same as when they were created using ATI or have they been split into 2GB segments by using FTP to transfer them to the NAS?

I am away from home at present so not able to do any testing with my own Synology NAS and bootable rescue media.

Steve, the copies on the NAS are the same size as when they were created by ATI.  (The ATI FTP client imposes the old 2GB limit but many modern FTP clients and servers do not have that limit.  The client I'm using - WinSCP - and the Synology server had no trouble maintaining the original file sizes.)  That doesn't mean that nothing went wrong during the copy but it doesn't involve the file size.

Update:

Something I meant to mention before:  The recovery ATI could not access the NAS as long as I had it mapped in WinPE.  I had to delete the path with "net use" before ATI could access it.  Then it could access the copied .tib files but the validation would fail.

I'm going to create a WinPE (RE) recovery medium for another PC and try it there.

Update #2.

The validation worked on the other PC.  There were a couple false starts giving unclear error messages so I assume I was doing something wrong.  I'll try it again on the 1st PC a bit later.

Update #3:

The verify is currently running on the original PC.  I have no idea what I did wrong yesterday but all is well now.  Ignore this thread.
