Backup Strategy for a daily external "rotation" backup

Thread needs solution

Is it possible to set up a single backup job to multiple external drives for the home version? Only one drive will be connected at a time as the client will be backing up daily, and then swapping out to the second drive the following day.

I've attempted to rename the second drive with the same "Y" letter as a test to see if the job will still run with the new HDD connected. I didn't think it would as the backup is not seeing the original HDD hardware id.

Originally, I had two backup jobs setup.. on for each drive. As both backups are set to run at the same time, obviously one backup will always fail. I suggested that the backups be set to run on specific days, 01 m/w/f and 02 t/th. The issue here is if she forgets a drive or is off on holiday... I'm trying to avoid any errors within the software itself as I don't want the customer to "freak out" because a backup failed. I'm wondering if the business version will have an option or some way to set up this type of backup?

Any support is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

Albert...welcome to these user forums.

The links that Steve provided contain a lot of good information and techniques.

My personal preference would be to set up 2 identical tasks, but have them start 5 minutes apart.  When setting them up, make sure you go to the schedule tab and select advanced settings.

Then select "Run when the current destination device is attached"

Then, whichever drive is attached, then that task will run.  The other task will not run and it will not generate error messages.

When setting up the tasks, you must attach the correct drive for that task.  Also, you should permanently assign different drive letters to each drive, preferably an upper drive letter.
